Is it wrong that I want Getz and Pears to re-sign badly because I want to make a thread with all these stupid posts from Leafs fans?

I could see that but, if they can afford him, I could see him going to Pitt. Crosby and Malkin get all the spotlight and a guy like Perry would have to love playing with those two.

Our comments were in hypothetical-speculation land. That's far far away from reality. Basically, if the contract situation was settled and later the Ducks dealt Perry to Boston...what would the return be?...land.

How reliable is Garrioch?

Quote:
If the Ducks decide to move RW Corey Perry before the deadline, it's going to be an auction. The Leafs would certainly be interested in making a deal but they'd want the opportunity to sign Perry before giving up top prospects to make the deal. It's believed C Ryan Getzlaf, who just built a home in Anaheim, is going to stay put and the two sides are inching closer to a deal. Talks are continuing with Perry as well, but the sense is he won't sign

Not very much. But I suppose he could be tapped in to Perry's camp since that's sort of his area (Ontario).

If Perry had no interest in trying to make a deal why would he bother having his agents come out here and have contract talks?

Garrioch is about as reliable as Eklund.

I'd argue Eklund is more reliable, atleast he has some inside info (but only about Flyers).

Garrioch has nothing.

It is a little concerning to me that all these reporters keep coming out and saying they don't think Perry will re-sign. I mean, not that they are reliable or anything, but still...I don't like our chances to sign him.

Murray better be answering phone calls about Perry...

Well it's all speculation, they are probably making assumptions based on his representation ( Meehan) and maybe they've talked to some of his friends or family here in Ontario. Being a Leaf fan I can only imagine how great it would to get him in the blue and white on July 5th. It's going to be a tough call for Murray come trade deadline time and still no new contract for Perry. IMO I think he's made up his mind about hitting the market. His quotes on the first page tell me that reading between the lines. He sounds like someone who wants to play the year out and see where it goes after that.

They are just assuming the longer it goes without a deal the worse it looks. While that may end up being true I also think it's logical to believe that if he is happy here his agent is just grinding BM for all he is worth and they end up with a deal before the TDL.

A player not signing now would normally be a warning sign. But consider that a) Getzlaf is also not signed and b) the exact same thing happened in Perry's last contract, and he didn't even consider an offer sheet. They just waited for the cap space to open up (I believe Perry was also bound by the tagging thing?) and he signed a few days later.

He may well be moving on. My point is just that the timing thing doesn't really mean much to me.

I'm 100% sure Getzy will sign. So once they announce Getzy's I'll start to panic about Perry if he has not signed 7 days after that.

I really can't fathom Perry getting more than Getz on our team. I don't wanna resign Perry if it's over 8.25

Did you guys catch what Perry said?

Quote:
Getzy and I have talked a bunch of times. I'm not going to sit here and say yes or no. Itís one of those things where Iíll wait and see what happens. I'm not going to change my answer just because he signed.
As per Eric Stephens

That doesn't sound good...

It has to be put into context, it appears that he's referring to not answering yes or no in terms of a new deal (I guess you could argue this doesn't sound great in itself). Not flat out saying he's not re-signing.

I think it would be disingenuous of Perry to say his answer would change based on this signing. Perry has to do what he thinks is best for Perry.
