As long as there are elite players, the Leafs will have wet dreams about them.

Great player, but 8.25 for 8 years? Wow.

Crosby and Malkin are at 8.7....
Malkin needs to be re-signed soon, and Crosby took whatever he wanted because he could afford to.

This is market value for Getzlaf, just without the ******** years teams have been adding on at the back-end to lower the cap hit. It's arguably a bit below market value, even, when you look at what some other players are making over the same period of time.

New rules apply now and 8.25M per year is fair salary for Getzlaf, especially when he is a pending UFA (!). Ducks couldn't afford to lose him AND Perry. Perfect negotiationspot for Getzlaf and his agents.

Congratulations on the signing.
That's pretty much all there is to say about this. Great signing for the Ducks, especially considering the new CBA's reality. I think that's a nice price and already a discount for the Ducks, since most teams in the free agency would've thrown 9M+ at him.

Change his answer?
That worries me a lot. One could easily read into that that Perry told them he will test the waters as a ufa. To me, that's the most logical answer that he "isn't going to change" due to Getz signing.

Damn I wish the NHL would've got their way with 7 year max for your own UFAs and 5 for other teams'. This probably wouldn't even be an issue right now, and Getzlaf probably would've even come a shade cheaper. Oh well, if we get Perry locked up, I'm cool with it either way.
If Perry is traded before the trade deadline he can sign with the team he's traded to for 8 years still. So he may not be leaving money on the table.

This is not a bad deal at all when you consider what Minnesota just dished out to an inferior forward (Parise)

Higher than I hoped? Yep. A good deal for the Ducks? ABSOLUTELY.

Now the pressure is on Perry. Does he wants to stay with his friend Getzlaf and enjoy the chemistry or is he going after even bigger money? He might get more in UFA frenzy but not much more.

This sums up my feelings nicely.

Would I have liked Getz to take .75 less for a hometown discount? absolutely.

At the end of the day, I'm just happy he's in Anaheim to stay.

Question is this; what more does Perry want?

Closer to family? I totally understand this.

Better chance to win the cup? Well, probably true in a place like Toronto which has lots of cap space and a bright future.

Media pressure? No way. He doesn't like it in any way. Toronto, Montreal etc. are hell for him.

Money? Possible. He might get more than 8.25M AAV from some team.

Climate? Doesn't get much better than Anaheim.

Still working on Getzlaf contract details but it does contain no-movement clause. Highest he'll make in one season is $9.25M.

Per Eric Stephens

Thinking long term here. That contract of 8 years and 8.25. If we end up regretting it that's going to be really hard to unload in a trade. Possibly a Luongo fiasco? Sheesh Murray

Wow NOW a no move clause? This gets more dangerous as the details unfold.

First off, Perry wouldn't sign the same contract. I'm positive that there are teams out there that would pay him up to $12 million per year. I doubt we could sign him for any less than $10.

Also, Perry isn't the only one set to become a free agent this summer. Either he accepts a huge discount, or he's gone.

I'm curious, in your opinion which teams would give Perry 12 million a year?

I think it's hilarious how many people think this is just a terrible deal. I fully admit, that it's not the deal I was hoping for, but having Getzlaf locked up for 8 more years is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>
than being one of the many teams who have been searching for a #1 center for a years.

When was the last time a team got a legitimate #1 center, other than through the draft? Dallas trading for Richards? Can't think of many others. Definitely can't think of any that were under the age of 30.

12M with the cap going down to 60M???

I dont think anyone in the world values Perry at 3M more than Crosby...

Perry will sign for this contract or less... Or he goes to UFA and gets around the same anyways, i wouldnt pay more than 8M for Perry.

8 years at 8.25 WITH a no move clause? If we regret this signing not only do we have to find a team willing to take on that type of salary, but also finding a team Getz is willing to goto. This signing is a bit overboard in my eyes.

This is one of the most common, and yet most incorrect, beliefs that I've seen tossed around today. Crosby is actually going to be making more than 12 million next season. His cap hit is 8.7, and that is because of the longer term as well as the old CBA rules. Under the current rules, Crosby's cap hit would be a lot higher, and that's even considering the discount he took so he could keep that 87 number he loves so much.

I doubt Getzlaf signs a deal without a NMC, no matter how much he loves Anaheim

Then I don't think you understand how the new CBA changes things.
