It'd be great to get one of the RFA young defenseman this offseason. I don't see it happening, but it'd be nice to try.

Would also love to have Jagr back. He kind of had the same effect as Pronger with his ability to take pressure off the other players by being the focus of the media.

If we were going to try to sign someone for 9 or 10 million a year. It should be and offer sheet for Pietrangelo. Not saying we should do it, but he fills a bigger need than perry

Who is available? I'm sure they will make a play for someone.

A ton of big named young defenders.

The thing is, offer sheeting any of them would make us give up probably way more picks than we should. At this point, since our pipeline is that bad (outside of Stolarz, Laughton and Cousins and Ghost), we really should try to keep our picks. If we can get Rundblad or Gormley, that would be amazing. Even Lindholm from Anaheim would be amazing. I would rather just trade the guys out West so we don't really have to see them much.

Potential RFA D-Men that should be a target IMO:

Pietrangelo
Ekman-Larson
Shattenkirk
McDonagh

I think Pietrangelo and OEL are the only two who we have a slim chance at since they are already established great D-men. Shattenkirk isn't as good as the first two so his contract offer shouldn't be as large making it harder to get him w/o overpayment. I doubt the NYR would let McDonagh go and they have money anyway. They don't have a budget like the Blues and Coyotes. Rundblad can be a potential target, but he has not proven anything in the league yet.

I'd still love to do Briere straight up for Rundblad if I could. I know some Phoenix fans are saying he is being developed just right in the AHL, but I think he could benefit in a huge way to our current system, since we are more heavy on the offense than defense.

Rundblad would be treated like Matt Carle around here. He is weak in the defensive zone. He struggles with that part of the game mightily. Gormley is a fine prospect, but has some injury concerns to go along with him.

Neither of these guys don't become #1's like we need IMO.

If memory serves me right Rundblad starts his shift 70% of the time in the offensive zone.

I could see Gormley be a possible #1 or a very good #2 for most of his career. He's just a really good, all around D-man that any team would love. Rundblad at least can shoot from the point, and knowing from all I've seen from Carle, I'm sure Rundblad is more creative than him too. However, like Carle, Rundblad would need a good, hard hitting stay-at-home D-man to help him. Maybe fellow countryman Grossmann would help him out.

I don't think Gormley is dynamic enough to be a #1 in the league. He probably will end up being a solid top 4 defender. Maybe a below average #2 defender? Not so much a number one. HF tends to think every prospect coming through the pipelines will be a #1 center or #1 defender though, so I don't blame you for thinking that way.

I may be in the minority here, but I would take Semin at 7mm vs Perry at 9mm.

Seems like Carlye isn't really a fan of Gardiner. Maybe we can have them pacakge Gardiner+ something for Coburn. They are reportedly looking for a top 4 defender.

I can't think of anyone from the Flyers that we have drafted that would be considered a true #1 center or #1 defender when we got them, except for maybe Carter or Richards. Hell, we got JVR at 2nd overall and I never thought of him as the #1 player for our team. He was the #1 player at the time for the Flyers in terms of prospects (compared to the other prospects the Flyers had).

I would be good with this. Of course, I would also ensure that Gardiner undergoes many extensive tests on his brain first b/c of his concussion history to be on the safe side. How big would the + have to be for the Leafs?

I have no idea on Gardiner's value. Only thing I know is Coburn is more established than him, so he should be more valuable so the Leafs should be adding.

You stole my answer. I would be on board with this, maybe convince the Leafs to make that pick conditional. If they make it to the ECF when that pick falls between 27-30, it becomes a first. If not that second would be like 50ish overall.

In this draft, 50th overall is not a bad spot.

Shattenkirk won't be available, but would be nice. Same with Pietrangelo. I like Bogo from that list. Ian Cole (Damn STL has some good young defensemen). Alzner and Demers interest me, but not to anchor the team or anything like that. After that it is downhill. I doubt any of those players come here though.

How does this sound:

Briere + Gus for Rundblad + 3rd.
Coburn for Gardiner + 2nd.

Draft Nurse/Zadorov (because we would have Rundblad and Gardiner, so we have the PMD we would need) in the 1st. For the 2nd, draft Jacob De La Rose and Jimmy Lodge. For the 3rd, draft Theodore and Carrier.
