On if Getzlaf’s contract will have any effect on Corey Perry: “I hope so. A lot of times, when you find somebody to play with who has so much chemistry like Getzy and Perry, for me, it would be crazy to go somewhere else when you have almost everything you really need. You have a franchise who really wants to win, who treats players so well. You have an unbelievable hockey player to play with. I can see why this place could be a happy place for both of them for a long, long time. That’s not me. It’s up to them. But I’d like to see Corey Perry to do the same thing, but that’s only my opinion.”
Listen to the hall of famer perry, do whats right! Look what happened to kariya once he left teemu
Only if we let Horton and Ference walk as UFA/put Savard on LTIR, sign Tuuka at 5.5/6 mil, sign another defenseman at 2.5 mil to replace Ference - then we would have a little less than 8.5 mil. Other moves could be made as well to free up even more space. Boston could trade an additional 3.5 mil in salary if need be. I think the B's have cheaper replacement options and some of their prospects could take someone like Peverely's place. And if this Soderberg kid from Sweden comes over and is successful Boston could free up close to 13 mil in cap space. With all that being said I don't think Boston will go after Perry. I think they are happy with Horton and can re-sign him for a reasonable amount of money (lot less than Perry) and they will concentrate on their 3rd line and more solid defensive help. If they wanted too though they could take a run at Perry, but it would require some slight moves.
For all the reasons it's difficult/doesn't make sense for Perry to go to Boston, I can definitely imagine him the B's jersey.

It's not so much that it's difficult. The Bruins could make it work if they want to go after Perry. It's just if Boston wants to part with Horton. Ference we dont' care about - we can get a better and younger Dman at his current price or cheaper IMO. Perry would be an upgrade over Horton of course, but is the cost worth it? Horton can produce 30 goals a season for a lot cheaper. Perry currently gets close to 40g a season on average say... So, I'm not sure for 3 mil more (say it takes 9 mil to sign Perry and 6 mil to sign Horton) it's worth it for the Bruins...Perry would be a perfect fit in Boston though and I think it would take the B's over the top. But I think the Bruins are still in a good position without Perry and if they only upgrade their 3rd line and defense a bit - would be much cheaper also and allow a lot of flexibility for the Bruins.
I have no problem giving him 8 years, 7.5 mil per to come to Toronto.
The Ducks would have signed him already. He wants Getzlaf dough. Perry at about 8.5 seems about right. You have Semin at 7 a year and Perry is better than Parise also.
~60M 7yrs. (~8.5 cap).
i can see teams offering a bit more, but not much.
as for where, eastern canada (well, central canada, but in NHL terms it's eastern canada). Pick a team.
Ottawa: +has a center for him, +closeish to peterborough, +practically unlimited capspace, +young star in karlsson, +less crazy media than big canadian markets, +marc methot london dynasty teammate, +perry clan has relatives in ottawa that are sens STH's. -owner appears to be getting frugal since personal money issues, -small market revenues, -small market exposure
Montreal: +grew up a habs fan, +many good young players, best team in eastern canada right now, +big market exposure, +big market spending power to get him and build contender, +brandon prust london dynasty teammate, -big market media, -farther from peterborough than ontario teams, -no elite playmaking center
Toronto: +closeish to peterborough, +very close to london (his second offseason home), +big market exposure, +big market spending power, -no elite playmaking center, -big market media
i have no problem giving him 8.2M per year for 7 yrs for montreal.
Playing with Galchenyuk. even at 34 yrs old he will produce.
worse comes to worse we buy out his contract after 5 yrs.
the question is will he sign with us.. thats the only problem lol

Yeah, he's sitting in Peterborough with his family thanks to Matt Cooke. The rest is off the books as Horton + whatever they gave up to get Perry leaves. Boston is in great shape.
maybe someday, but not yet. 24 games at 0.5ppg doesnt really put him in the same category as spezza (or what he's used to, getzlaf), no matter how much potential he has right now.
Anything more than 8.2 mil Boston wouldn't be able to do unless they move someone else. This is assuming that Horton and Ference walk, Tuuka signs for 6 mil/yr and the B's replace Ference with someone making what Ference is currently making 2.5 mil/yr, also includes placing Savard on LTIR. Boston could bring in a cheaper defenseman than 2.5 mil or they could unload someone else and replace them with a cheaper option to free up to about 13 mil in cap space if need be. For example, they could trade Pevereley and replace him with a cheaper option say a 2.5 mil/guy and have about 10.5 mi in cap space.
I just think the Bruins just resign Horton and sit comfortably instead of being right up against the cap if they were to go after Perry. Perry pt total average over 6 yrs is 67.33 pts/avg and Hortons over 6.5 yrs is 55.07 pts/avg.
