I remember when Greg showed for his first Habs camp everybody was amazed by his skating, how it has become a weakness i don't know.

So the biggest knock appears to be his skating. I haven't followed this guy at all, and only know him because of the trade.

Is his skating at least passable for the nhl level, given his positional strengths?

It's not his weakness and it's not his strength.

But he can hit and clear the crease. And he's got size for a d-man. That's good enough for me.

Bagnall averages around 100 PIM per season. And not because he holds the stick or trips.

He is a tough player and it was good to see Pateryn not back down from him.

Hope he gets some icetime this weekend.

It's not like he had a chance though Bagnall was going to kill him if he didnt

Bagnall looked bored in that fight. At least he didnt laugh like McClaren did when fighting Gorges.

Cédrick Desjardins sur Greg Pateryn: "Défensivement très sûr. Le genre de défenseur qu’on ne voit pas parce qu’il ne fait pas d’erreur.

Thanks for that, don't know much about Greg.
In English (hope you don't mind my translation)

Wonder if he plays or he's just a safety since Diaz and Weber are already hurt. I hope we see him in the Saturday game and if he does well give him another shot on Sunday.

Is this guy at least NHL caliber though? Once we get rid of Kaberle and Weber, will we be able to play this physical guy as a bottom pairing D next year?

It's possible. He'll be 23 next year, which is a decent age to break a d-man in. If he gets a little experience this year, and continues his strong play in Hamilton I could see him notch the 6-7 spot next year. He's the type of player that coaches love, because he doesn't make a lot of stupid decisions. A shut down RH d-man does fit our lineup nicely, so he'll have to work for it, but I do think he has a decent chance of making the team out of camp. If not, the first call up. Of course Beaulieu and Tinordi are still in play, and to a lesser degree Ellis. Tinordi and Beaulieu could definitely use another year in the AHL in my opinion, so that's where Pateryn's chance opens up.

He's 22 and never played a game in the league, give him time. Maybe he'll never pan out.(I doubt it.)

This was a very rude and judgmental thread to read. Don't forget, everyone, hockey is just a game and we follow the Habs for fun. No need to take it so seriously.

That said, it is exciting to see Pateryn rewarded for his solid play in the AHL. Would be interested to see him start an upcoming game, but I feel that it is doubtful considering Kaberle has been great for us lately.

This can only serve as motivation for Greg.

You ever read a thread that wasn't like that on this board?

Maybe the Happy birthday threads... That's why I put them on my ignore list

that was how i meant it. thanks for clearing it up. i didn't mean to put down his potential or talent, i just mean that i only have so much time to dedicate to following hockey and the habs (which is still a a good amount of time), so i allot most of that to roster guys and our current season and admittedly neglect most of our prospect, not all, until they become a bit more relevant. that's all

maybe one knock...as someone pointed out earlier, he has been in the system for like, 5 years, at some point he's either going to have something to show, or isn't. this would be one of those opportunities hopefully and will be a crucial test if he plays. i don't know what mgt's plans are. i know D take time to develop.
