The Canucks are looking for a centre that can handle temporary 2nd line duties, and migrate to the third when Kesler comes back, and/or a right handed d-man. What would St. Louis give up for Ballard?
We have no centers to give, we're looking at signing Arnott if that tells you how bad our center depth is.if we ship anyone it's a winger and tbh we need a left d that's better than Ballard.
Don't think Vancouver would be asking for much considering how Ballard has played outside of the first 15 games of this season.
Ballard on his own did pretty great in the top 4 in Florida, I think he'd be able to slot it at least next to Shattenkirk.
Ballard's contract is not something the Blues are interested. He'd probably end up as the #6/7 here in STL and there's zero incentive to trade even a pick when it's likely to pan out like that.
FYI, we're not looking for a top-4 defenseman, so suggesting he'd be paired with Shattenkirk doesn't work. We're looking for someone to pair with Pietrangelo and Ballard isn't that guy.
Also, we have no center depth and are currently toying with the idea of signing Jason Arnott to bolster that depth. We would not be trading a centerman to Vancouver.
If Ballard is the piece coming back, Armstrong will be politely declining.
Value wise thats great but as said not really much itnerest in Ballard. Dags is needed until others return from injuries right now anyway.
Canucks also have Garrison, who is another underutilized player there. PP specialist from Florida with nearly 20 goals, and he isn't even on their powerplay...

No centers on the NHL roster could be traded since the Blues only have Backes, Berglund, & Nichol currrently. So the only centers they could offer Vancouver are Hensick, Sonne, or Nigro. But at $4.2 mil a year for Ballard through the 15/16 season, and him being another smallish defenseman; the Blues wouldn't seem to be interested.
Ballard is a top 4 defenseman on the Blues, not overpaid crap. But alright. Ballard is easily an upgrade on Russel and Redden.
St.Louis doesn't have anything right now they are prepared to give that makes sense anyways tho. unless they are interested in giving us Sobotka which isn't likely.
I can't see a deal working out right now. And I'm more than fine with hanging onto Ballard, nothing wrong with having six top 4 defenseman.

Lol I know.
I can't understand our coaching decisions either, both Garrison and Ballard are being badly underused. Ballard especially.
I said Sobotka in another thread about Ballard. I think that's pretty close to fair value, Vlad isn't going to have huge value on the market and doesn't play the biggest role in STL.
Ballard could be a very good fit for the Blues if they are willing to actually take the chance. Given a real opportunity and to possibly play beside any of your RD could make everyone see the offence that disappeared in AV's system.
Beside Petro he would be a solid skating left side guy who can bring a bit of everything and could play a huge role. Beside Shatty he could put up point just doing what we've asked him to do and play solid defensive Dman. Beside Polak Ballard could form a solid two way pair where both bring a big physical element.

We are not trading Sobotka for Ballard. Sobotka actually plays an important role for the Blues. He's a player that can shift anywhere on the team. If a line needs a shake up Sobotka gets put on that line he plays anywhere from the 1st line to the 4th line. He is also and important penalty killer for us.
