I propose 10 divisions. Each team would have extra games against the two teams in its division and the six teams in the divisions immediately above and below it:

VAN/CAL/EDM Vancouver Will Win The Presidents' Trophy Every Year Division
LAK/ANA/SJS Pacific Division
PHX/COL/DAL Roanoke Division
STL/CHI/MIN Flyover Division
DET/CLB/NSH Teams Detroit Didn't Know it Had a Rivalry With Division
CAR/TBL/FLA Southleast Division
PIT/PHI/WAS Pond Hockey Division
NYI/NYR/NJD Metropolis Division
BOS/MTL/WIN Drama Division
TML/OTT/BUF All Maple Leaf Fan Division
You should go post this in Nhl talk.
This is hilarious.

You should change Roanoke to the Wild West or Crackhouse Division.

Got to cater to them. They are the greatest team ever in the NHL, just ask any of their fans. And no I'm not even being sarcastic about this. Dead serious. This whole realignment seems to be done solely to get Detroit into the East so they have less travel and don't change time zones as often... Move Nashville to the East, 15 teams in each conference. It isn't rocket science, and don't give me the preserve rivalries arguement because by moving Detroit they proved they don't care about that.

I am a fan of the assurance that the Kings will be coming to Boston every year now under this format

Preparing for expansion teams in Kansas City (Midwest) and Seattle (Pacific)?

I'm down with our division. Anyone old enough to remember the old Smythe division can recall some of the great battles we had against the western Canadian teams.

Looking forward to this.

A lot depends on what happens with the Coyotes.

I think Quebec would get a team before KC.

If there is expansion my guess it be Quebec City and Seattle. Quebec goes to what I think is being called the "central" division with Boston and Montreal and all them. Move Detroit back to the Mid West and of course Seattle to the pacific.

I doubt Detroit agrees to their new place in an eastern group if in a few years they're just shipped back into a western conference. They're finally going to be playing a lot more games against Toronto again. I don't see them giving that up easily.

I don't see that happening. But you never know. Maybe Columbus goes West instead.

Sucks for the Florida teams.

I'll just have to live with one or two less Kings games in Dallas. Kinda sucks, but what can you do?

Yeah that east coast bias is really coming back to bite them all in the ass. At least for next season.

I like how Tampa and Florida are sitting at the bottom and have to travel all the way to the North.... couldn't they be in the Atlantic....considering they're nowhere near the central, maybe they could atleast travel a LITTLE less within their division.

Yep. Move Columbus and Pittsburgh into the division with Montreal and the Florida teams with Catolina and co.

Just looking at that, we need Seattle and Salt Lake City, geographically.

Or Seattle and Portland. For decades, those are two cities that had been rumored as potential expansion destinations. But if that ends up happening, one of the teams in the Pacific Conference would have to move to the Central Conference. I'm thinking Phoenix would move since they're close to Colorado and Texas and it is approximately the same distance in travel for them going from Colorado to Canada as it would be if they were to fly to Chicago, St. Louis, or Nashville.

Anyone know how the scheduling is gonna work?

Are we gonna play teams in our division 6 times and everyone else 2 times? Or is there a different set up?
