Would you do this?

to San Jose: Alexander Perezhogin, Andrei Markov and a 1st

to Montreal: Patrick Marleau

apperently Gainey offerd this to San Jose, from Hockey trade rumors, says it was told on team 990, i have a hard time believing Gainey would offer Markov before Souray and i think we're overpaying at it is..

NOW I AM NOT REPORTING THIS AS A RUMOR BUT AS A PROPOSAL

No. Losing Markov would be more detrimental than the gain from picking up Marleau. I think Marleau's overrated, anyway. The only way I would do this if it looks like both:
a) We're not going to make the playoffs
b) Markov isn't willing to resign to a long-term deal

I don't have a problem of letting Perez or the 1st rounder go, but losing Markov without getting a solid d-man back hurts. Now if we keep the same package but acquire Pronger or Niedermayer in the process

It's intriguing but really thins us out a D. If it becomes apparent that re-signing Markov or Souray for that matter isn't going to happen, then by all means make a deal.

Never! I wouldn't even trade Markov straight up for Marleau. Markov is a top 15 d-man in this league and without him we sucked last year, so no way we are moving Markov, even for a player like Marleau. Giving Perezoghin and a 1st + Markov would be a *** joke!

You lost your mind..... only a 1st for Marleau would be quite creepy... But MARKOV, and perezhogin?

I would, Marleau is a fast skilled player and markov fall UFA, adding a 1rst and perezhogin is alright for a player like Marleau.

Seem fair to me. But i dunno why Sharks would want to lose marleau anyway...

This deal would only be good if we got a d-man back. The wisest thing to do right now is wait to see if Markov is the real deal....this year we'll know.

I would not do that deal unless a comparable defenceman is coming our way. Markov is our #1 D man.

If I was Gainey I would stand pat. I am really confident about the team in general. Yes things could be tweaked here and there(ala Ribs), but for the most part I'm totally stoked for the coming season! Good job Bob!

Trading Markov for the Habs, is the equivalent of a baseball team trading their #1 starting pitcher or their ace if you will, for a position player. Doesn't make sense.

Marleau...He's a dream for me but trading Markov would be pretty tough.

Marleau is probably the fastest skater in the league, and one of the best centremen though. He'd be the first true star we'd have in a long time.

Marleau is very good but seems like alot to pay for Marleau, However Ibet if you posted this on the SJ board they would not want to move Marleau for that package. I think it would a be a no from both sides (fan wise)

Basicaly Montreal fans say no because we know how much Markov means to this D and the PP.
We all know what type of potential Perez has as well and a 1st is almost always a roster player at some point.

On the flip side SJ fans would see it as trading Marleau for Markov a prospect and a pick basicaly
Strengthening the D but weaking the power they have down the middle.

No because if Gomez or Briere were available for less assets jettison salary that isnt Markov. Long term contracts would have to be in place.

I'd do the trade and re-sign Markov next summer.

Value wise it's not that bad but I can't imagine the Habs trading Markov without a D coming on the other way. Specially that with Marleau's salary we could not sign on to replace him.

I think that Gainey should do this if he has tried to reach a contract extension with Markov and he was either asking too much or did not want to come back.

Marleau has a very reasonable contract and would be what we despereately need at center. If this is the case, I would do it so long as BG has a plan to get us another top 4 dman to fill the gap until the offseason when he can find a true #1 or 2.

Marleau is big fast can score and pass and is french canadian which will do wonders for 110 % haha.

For a #1 Center like Marleau giving up Perez and a 1st is no big deal the only sticking point is Markov at this point.

I would do this, but another trade would need to follow up to bring a D

markov would be the best player in that deal.
yah yah, marleau is a great centerman...but based on the reg season he's not even the sharks best centerman. where markov is head and shoulders above the rest of the habs defensive core and san jose's as well. so we'll lose our best defenseman, a first round pick and a promising young and cheap prospect so we can have an improvement over ribeiro? i don't think so.
in the end, solid defense is what wins championships...the playoffs is usually involve tight checking and look at what happened to the high powered sharks when they couldnt defend against the oilers counter offense?
if we had another defenseman like markov in the books, i'd make a trade like this (removing the first round pick atleast)...but we don't have the luxury of that kind of depth, so an emphatic no to this trade.
