The cap space that a player is taking up against the league cap is what matters. Crosby makes $8.7 million AAV. Sorry, Getzlaf, you missed the boat... If Crosby is making $8.7 then what does that put Getzlaf at? $6.5 - 7.0 million range?
I know that, I don't think it is out of whack under the new CBA. But really wanted to hear them try to explain it to me.

8.25 seems a bit high IMO, question is how much "real" cash do the Ducks have. Can they now afford to give Perry a similar deal? Wow 66 million for Getzlaf, definitely not a hometown discount. Perry is going to be asking for similar numbers. Are the Ducks willing to pay 2 players over 120 million dollars combined for the next decade?

Either way, Getzlaf got what he wanted, the Ducks gave him what they were willing to and the fans seem happy enough.
Whoever thought Getzlaf would sign for under $6M was crazy. My guess was anywhere from $7.5-$8. Considering it was a UFA deal, he was bound to be overpaid by someone, just glad it was Anaheim and that it wasn't ridiculou(by my standards of course )

For an 8 year deal, 8.25m is too high for a guy like Getzlaf. Sure he's a great player, but he's no Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos. He's hit 80 pts or more 2 times in his career. You would think since the Ducks gave him the max in terms of contract length, he would at least give them a bit of a break on average salary for something in the 6.75-7mil range. Now you have Perry who is gonna expect the same, so you have 16.5mil tied up on 2 guys and a salary cap that's gonna drop by 6 mil next season.

Can the Ducks afford that though? Ducks fans know more about their owner than I do. For a team that struggles to even make a little money with their whole hockey operation dishing out 2 monstrous contracts seems like bad business to me. Perry is going to ask for at least what Getzlaf is making IMO. So starting next season you're going to be paying 16.5 million dollars for two players for the next 8 years. That's like a third of the cap lol

Great player but that salary is very high...not sure what they are thinking here. Perry and Ryan will be far harder to keep under the salary cap after this.

LOL, the Ducks just hamstrung their own team for the next 8 years. And they wonder why there was a lockout.

Is 8.25 that much to pay for Getz? He would have got atleast 7.5 on UFA.

That's ****ing great value as far as I'm concerned.

Haters gonna hate.

When you consider the fact that they didn't get to tack on those tapering years, it's a lot like the Parise/Suter contracts... But I wouldn't call those good either.

I agree with this. I thought he'd sign for 7.5 AAV with Anaheim, but it's a little higher. Not a surprise at all IMO.

As a Wild fan, I'd rather have Parise and Suter on Getzlaf-type contracts than the ones that they have now.

2 more years after this.

Ducks should be able to sign Perry, as long as he wants to stay.

They have 20mil of cap space available next year at the moment. Perry would be a good chunk of that.. Selanne, Koivu, Lydman only key guys needing new deals, some may retire..

Very happy as a caps fan to have locked Backstrom up to his long term contract years ago. Better player, much better contract, and younger.

The point I was making is they're not that different. Getzlaf just didn't get the hack off years to drop the cap.

dont really understand why people keep saying he's overpaid. parise and suter just signed 100 million dollar contracts lol.

this sucks for everybody cause he inflates everyone else contracts. i was hoping he would sing or 7.5

Parise and Suter's contracts are four years longer though.
