Brock Nelson to EDM

From what I have read and seen he provides a good power game, and is able to produce some offence. I could see as a great fit for the Oilers, could he be gotten?

Would something alah Cody Hodgson for Zack Kassian work? Would Sam Gagner get it done?

If the Isles plan on using Strome at center, I doubt they would be interested.

No chance unless you want to send Yakupov, Hall, Eberle, or Schultz.

Edmonton's ideal roster would average under 1 year of experience. Now we just have to see if the league will pass their request so that they can dress draft picks before using them on players .

Can't see Sam Gagner working. Yeah yeah he's friends with Tavares blah blah blah. Isles have an issue with size just like Edmonton does and trading away Brock Nelson, even though he's a prospect doesn't help. It appears the organization is very high on him. I see him being their #2 center somewhere down the line.

Brock will get a legit chance at being our 2C if Strome is moved to wing (highly likely)

This is unrealistic and completely useless.

IMO size isn't as big of a concern as it is in the west, but thanks for the insight.

Size is important for all teams look at the numerous threads from East conference teams looking for size as well.

He's more like Jordan Staal, and I don't want him moved.

I see a lot more Eric Staal in his game, than JS. He's got a nice set of mitts, and wheels too. He's sound defensively, but doesn't accel at it the way Jordan does.

Nelson has probably been Bridgeport's best all around forward in his first year in professional hockey. Big and skilled centers like him (can also play LW) carry a premium in the NHL, I doubt the Isles have any incentive to deal him unless he's part of a package to bring in a stud.

The Oilers definitely need to get younger. More prospects!

(yes, I know Brock Nelson is an outstanding prospect)

Brock Nelson would not cost Yak/Hall/Eberle/Schultz - that is absurd, he has no NHL experience.

However, the Isles are not in a position to move him. He is an enticing prospect and will be a key piece in the Isles top 6 in the very near future. Trading Nelson would only make sense if the Isles were prospect-heavy up front and needed defensive help.

No because the Isles, like Edmonton, badly need size/toughness in their top 6.
There is a Jan 2013 Newsday/fan chat, where Staples says the Isles front office absolutely loves the 6'3 Nelson.

He's skilled, defensively responsible and a good pk player. Imo he's Bridgeport's best all round player. Pronman says Nelson does not have a wow factor, he's just an all round very good prospect.

Both Strome and Brock Nelson are centers, with top 6 potential. Strome's got the wow factor that Nelson lacks.

But, Nelson is a pf, plays stronger defense and has a physical edge that Strome and Gagner don't bring.

Hes so good that he could potentially for the Isles to play Strome on the wing..

Hall is a no go

and if you want Eberle, Yakupov and Schultz--Nino Niederiter enters the discussion

Instead of shuffling the deck, doesn't it make more sense for the oilers to draft Barkov this summer and the isles continue developing their two pfs, hoping both Nino+ Nelson can both play a top 6 role for them?

Brock Nelson is IMO, the Isles best prospect..... it's just that he's been under the radar (Nino, Strome) for the last couple years. I wouldn't look to trade him right now, as he has given no indication that he isn't going to reach his potential.... which is pretty high.

Oiler draft a powerforward in the draft he will be ready 4 in to 5 years. Brock Nelsn and Nino will be ready sooner.

Both players have size and potential and oiler fans need to get off the hump about drafting drafting drafting. We need to sort out a few things and one thing we are missing are FW over 6 feet tall. The more I see Yakupov the more I wish we had taken the 6-4 center Montreal took. Both players are projected to be second line players and bring something to the game that the oilers need.

But I guess Oiler fans want to spend the next 20 years drafted players and not making any real moves. We draft a Power forward in this draft he will need development, almost all PWF do. I do not see the oilers being in position to draft Barkov--who is the next powerforward in the draft?

The Islanders need large forwards for the top 6 too, so I really don't see a match here. We have plenty of PMD though! lol

Isles also need to add size/toughness to their top 6, which is why Snow has ignored Nino and his agent's request for a trade. Nino has no leverage to force a trade and Snow's team needs his chippy, physical play.

Boyes is a ufa this summer. Moulson is a ufa next summer. Imo the Isles would like one of Strome/Brock Nelson to develop into a 2nd liner and push Frans Nielsen down to the 3rd line.
