He hadn't lost a boatload of money on them.

The last time the isles traded top prospects+ a 1st for a soon to be ufa, was 2007.
The Ryan Symth trade was rumored to have come together quickly, just hrs before the trade deadline, although the gms had briefly talked at the winter meetings.

Snow told the NY press he wasn't worried about signing Smyth to an extension(foolish). Snow seemed to think that just putting a big check in front of Smyth would do the trick.

Marian Gaborik - 7.5
Dany Heatley - 7.5
Alexander Semin - 7.0
Patrick Marleau - 6.9
Nicklas Backstrom - 6.7
Paul Stastny - 6.6
Brad Richards - 6.7
Daniel Briere - 6.5

How many of these guys carry their respective teams?

So, it was more recent than I had thought.

Thank you for correcting me.

Looking at salaries on Capgeek, he won't have a tough time getting $7M.

Tavares- $5.5m

1.Why would I want a complimentary player, making considerably more then Tavares?
2.I'm gonna guess that all of the players you list, play on teams with much higher payrolls then Snows.

Tavares is on his 2nd NHL contract.

Kessel is going to be seeking his 3rd.

That was a pointless comparison.

The point is, I don't see Snow paying Kessel millions more per season then JT, to play a complimentary role on LI, while Tavares carries the team.

Kessel seeking his 3rd contract, doesn't change the fact that he's proving to be a complimentary player. There's a big difference between Kessel making say $5m per on a 5-6 yr deal vs. Kessel making $6m-$8m per on a 5-6 yr deal.

Watch him play more.

I would have absolutely no problems with $7M.

He is supremely talented. If we don't get Corey Perry, I hope Kessel stays.

I have watched him play in NYI/Bruin games and NYI/Leaf games over the yrs. I've posted previously that I love his speed and skill( the same way I love Grabner's speed and skill).

I'd like him on my team's first line, but not at $6m-$8m per.

I know Filppula is a pending UFA but he's the only top 6 forward that would realistically be used in a package deal for someone like Kessel, unless you guys would want Franzen instead. I don't think the value would be enough to get Kessel but I don't feel like the Wings would be able to add anything else, maybe a conditional 2nd if they make it to the Finals but that's really it.
this is a great package. where do i sign

No thanks. I like Nyquist, but the rest does nothing for me. If we're trading for futures, Smith absolutely has to be involved, and Helm as well. Not saying either team would do it, just saying what I would want. I didn't make the Kessel trade, but he isn't going for Fillpula and a draft pick

Sorry, didn't see Wings fan, I'm not one

how do you not follow? all those guys you bolded Carter, Richards, Byfuglien, Horton, Lucic, Marchand are willing to go to war for there teams and take hits to make plays, block shots, go to the front of the net, go into the corners and win puck battles, stick up for there teammates the fact you think they don't is ridicoulous.

as for Kane he's the softest of those guys as I stated but he still shows more character then Kessel does
