This might get interesting

http://espn.go.com/racing/nascar/cup...d-25000-nascar

An outraged Denny Hamlin said on Thursday he will not pay the $25,000 fine levied by NASCAR for his "disparaging remarks" about the new Sprint Cup car following Sunday's race at Phoenix International Raceway.

"Ultimately, I'm not OK with it," Hamlin told ESPN "NASCAR Now" reporter Jamie Little and other media outlets during the Gen-6 test at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. "This is the most upset and angry I've been in a really, really long time about anything ... anything that relates to NASCAR.

"The truth is what the truth is. I don't believe in this. I'm never going to believe in it. As far as I'm concerned, I'm not going to pay the fine. If they suspend me, they suspend me. I don't care at this point."

Denny is fined for this, but they don't fine Tony for his comments at Talladega last year?

I'm all for drivers telling their opinion. I wish more drivers would. Seems to me like NASCAR is butt hurt because their new car is no better than the COTank.

In true, typical nascar fashion, no one will ask them how the two incidents are different. Because if you don't play nascar's way you don't get access to anything. Inconsistent rulings, double standards, phantom cautions, phony manufactured "excitement". Treating fans like they are naive children.

Their fan base is eroding yearly and no one is allowed to tell them the emperor has no clothes.

And you still wonder why I hold such a low opinion of nascar the organization? Come on over to the dark side. We've got a cold one waiting for you.

There aren't enough suits on this planet that could kill my love for stock car racing.

I do disagree with a lot of things that NASCAR does and this is one of them. This situation is a good example. They only seem to penalize people whenever they feel like it, or they just play favorites. I think Robin Pemberton has a lot to do with it. That guy just looks like a complete slime ball.

I couldn't agree more. But how can you reconcile with an organization having no integrity, ruling the sport? They play all of us for fools. I love racing and I love what everybody else in nascar is trying to do. But I hate how nascar treats the competitors and the fans. nascar as an organization sucks big time.

Major props to Denny Hamlin for telling NASCAR to stick it where the sun doesn't shine.

The man gave an honest, sincere answer to a question and they fine him for it?!?! Give me a break.

Now all the drives will go back to the bland boring comments like:

I'd like to thank my sponsor ...
The crew did a great job ...
We gave it 110% ...
We'll go get em' next week...

Fight the power!

You need to tell nascar. That's why it's getting talked about, because nascar waaaaay overblew it.

NASCAR doesn't matter either way, you either play by their rules or you find another series to race in, it's been that way since 1949, and is OLD NEWS

If Jimmie Johnson said the exact same words Hamlin did, do you think NASCAR would have taken the same action? Rules are rules, everyone gets that. The problem is that rules are no good if they are only enforced on certain people.

Quoted for truth. NASCAR must have taken lessons from the NHL when it comes to consistency in enforcing the rules

Actually, I think the NHL took lessons from the France family.

Could be, could be.

I originally got into NASCAR during the first NHL lockout but gradually drifted away. Started watching again during the most recent lockout and I have to say I do not like the way the sport has changed since then.

I found the racing and the drivers a lot more interesting & exciting then than I do now.

I guess all the money corrupted the sport. Nobody wants to do or say anything that might shut the money spigot off, with the possible exception of Brad Keselowski and now Denny Hamlin. It's too bad.

They definitely benefited from the US open wheel war. The problem is they got too big for their britches. There is a link further up in this thread to a recent interview Brad did. He pretty much nails it more than once on how nascar has to get their head out of their hind end. They truly are the emperor with no clothes who refuse to listen to anybody else. But I guess until they hit rock bottom they will continue on their merry way, oblivious to everything.
