If they walk away, how much do you think Briere can get on the open market? Aren't most teams close to the cap anyway? I could Washington going after him hard if he becomes a FA.

But I think Buffalo will keep him and probably lose Afinogenov instead.

It 48 hours AFTER THE LAST DECISION of the arbitor on the last player of the team. So after the last Sabres player had his decision from the arbitor, the team has 48 hours to accept or refuse the decisions of the arbitor (one by one if the team had many players in arbitration).

I could see a lot of teams going for him.. a speedy guy who can score, pass, and lead a team is rare, and he's young.

I think he'd fit perfectly in Montreal, and we have the pieces to get him. All depends on if Bob likes ribs or not.

i.e. They don't have to make a decision on Briere until 48 hours after their last arbitration case. And they have so many cases, that's probably a couple weeks away.

that lets them look at the big picture(whole team salary and cap) before they have to sign everyone. This is a good rule for buffalo this year.

makes sense

Arbitration will be over on the 4th so from the 4th to the 6th there will be a lot of trades, signings. Can't wait..this is what some of the Gm's are waiting for to fill out their rosters.

They do have the choice. If they dont accept he becomes a UFA. But I dont think a team would ever do that. They would much rather sign and trade.

If I'm not mistaken, the Bruins have done it a couple of times.

Last to do it was Tampa I think. They walked away from Cory Stillman, who then signed for Carolina for much less.

I recall them walking away from Dimitri Khristich. Good move too!

They have until the end of the business day Aug. 6 for all players going through arbitration on their team.
