Seems to me like he's a Josh Gorges 2,0 version type of player but is a little bit tougher.

He's always had some issues with skating/foot speed. Been watching him the last 5 years now, thought it would hinder him a bit at the pro level but it hasn't.

Yes, it's likely just average but hasn't effected him at the AHL level at least. Of course the only way we'll see if it's a problem at the NHL level is to see him dress.

He's someone that can do most things well. Smart and hard working. I'm still surprised at how well he's looked in the offensive zone this year but good to see.

He hasn't much experience at it, i'd have to look up his USHL days cause I never saw him play there but at Michigan he never fought.

I would say he's making a case for himself to be considered a legit NHL prospect. I don't know if he would be ready for full time duty as another year in the AHL wouldn't hurt but he could easily see time when injuries hit assuming he continues to play this well. The good news going into next season, at least at this point, is if injuries hit hard we'll have a number of D prospects that can be recalled from Hamilton.

Could be as Bennett is highly mobile and a very good skater, something Pateryn is not as his game is more about strength then speed.

He can't fight btw. He's big but isn't quick. I don't know if he has NHL material. Reminds me a bit of Matthieu Carle.

He's had one fight, why do you say he can't fight? Also how do you get Mathieu Carle, they are nothing alike? Carle's game was all about passing but he wasn't so good in his own end. Pateryn's game is about strength and sound defensive play.

Will wear 64....Which position will he play as an offensive lineman? Guard? Tackle?

Nobody knows....though it's tough to think that he had the possibility to work at this art when he couldn't practice it for the last 4 years. I agree though that people shouldn't aim for that, his game is to be tough and reliable. Though, he might be challenged when too tough...which is one of the reasons why I wouldn't mind to see abolishing fighting...People don't understand ****....Players can be tough, yet not be great fighters. It is an art in itself. But it's absolutely false that players that plays hard and gives hard bodychecks HAS to fight. Makes no sense to me.

In two years he'll be as good but he'll be about 3M cheaper than Gorges

Agreed, I don't think anyone knows if he can or can't yet since he hasn't had the chance. But playing 4 years in the NCAA didn't hamper guys like Parros or Bagnall who also spent 4 years in the NCAA. Not comparing them at all but I think some look at a guy like Komisarek and think that since he played in the NCAA he can't fight which isn't always going to be the case.

Dumont will replace White and Pateryn probably takes Kaberle place.

Maybe MT takes the opportunity of playing against a weaker team to test both players.

Great! People watch your expectations now. First game ever, it won't be perfect. We will probably see that foot speed needs to be worked on. And that the glasses will see most of his passes. Everything else more than that, and it's a total success. Pateryn will be a NHL'er. Remains to be seen in what role and when. So might as well make him see from his own eyes what he needs to work on. Great news!

I look forward to see what the big guy can do. He will need a game or 2 for sure to get into full swing. But I am willing to give him the chance. Make us proud

I don't understand all the high numbers. I mean, yes, we have tons that are retired but there are still plenty in the 30s and 40s. 34 or 44 would look nice on a Dman especially 44. Oh well, maybe its just a temp number/will grow on me.

People should be less critical on high numbers. Gretzky, Gilmour, Federov, Mogilny, Bourque, Lemieux, Lindros, etc. had high numbers and looked great in them. Pacioretty looks great in 67.

I'm not 100% against it. For example, 67,79,76 all good numbers. I just dont like boring ones like 64. I dunno, I guess its a matter of opinion, Im just surprised we dont have more guys in the 30s and 40s.

I always think goalie when a number is in the 30s or 40s.

That's true. I think of Richer/Hamrlik when I see 44 though. I like Moen in 32 as well.

How can anyone stand up and compare Greg Pateryn to Mathieu Carle of all people?

Think Johnny Boychuk at some extent with slight differences in their overall games.

Mathieu Carle is one of those rare players that can score from the IR. Pateryn ain't no Mathieu Carle.
