He's not adapting his style for the team. The guy has won a Cup, no one can take that away from him. However, the team he won the Cup with wasn't even close to the same makeup as this team. There you had a veteran team with hot goaltending. Hear you have a young team with mediocre goaltending. Lavi seems like the coach you bring in to put an already contending team over the top. That's what he was when he was first hired, and if we didn't have Leighton and possibly had a better 3rd pairing, he'd have another Cup to his name. But that team is gone, and we need someone that's going to develop our players into solid NHLers, not develop players to play all-out offense. When they're not falling into early goal deficits, they're blowing leads.

I honestly don't see Laviolette not finding a job elsewhere. I think if the team continues to fizzle, going separate ways at the end of this season might be the best option for both him and the team. He's still extremely young for an NHL coach and this will not be his last job in the NHL. There are teams he's probably more apt to coach than this current Flyers team. I really like the guy, but it's just not a good fit anymore. There's no need to call attention to it by dragging it on for a year and having a guillotine hang over the guy's head whenever there's a bad loss, just let him go with some dignity, because regardless of his shortcomings all coaches of poor teams in Philadelphia become scapegoats by the end of their tenure.
Yea I think that's a good point in that we continually lose to well coached teams where it seemed like we were losing to fast hard forchecking teams earlier. We smoke a pens team that is not well coached and then we get completely dominated by a well coached team. I'm tired of it. A team this young could be structured and be solid for the future.

I just can't see Ruff fixing this team. What is the system he likes to play anyways? Also, what is Craig MacTavish up to?

If he were to be fired, I am very curious to see what direction Holmgren goes in. I would have loved Carlyle personally but he's off the market now.

I think we need to do what we did with Lavy and Hitchcock, and that was to go outside of the system to find a coach, if we were to fire Lavy that is.

I would like to see a 2007 style house cleaning. Fire Lavi and Homer tomorrow. Lavi isn't getting the job done and Homer didn't put together a team that was suited for Lavi's style (which really isn't even existent at this point). Homer has balls to do big things but that isn't enough. Don't even get me started on the no back up.

The question is, who the **** would be our GM?

Isn't he assistant GM right now? Wouldn't he basically be Homer-lite?

As much as people may not like it, if they're both fired, I think Burke and Ruff will be brought in. Just because the Flyers have their affinity for making a "big splash." I'm not a 100% fan of bringing both of them in but I would much rather them do that then bring in a "Flyers Guy." I'm sick and tired of it.

I could see them bringing in Burke because he is a dinosaur that enjoys "Flyers hockey."

I think lavy will be fired. He is one of my all time favorite flyer coaches but right now the team needs to be woken the F up. Atleast put in an effort for the man, if they cant do that then he has to go.

Sucks because the team is put together to fit his style of coaching. A new coach could mean a whole new roster.

Guys say what you want about Burke, but honestly look at his track record, he has some serious success.

He made Vancouver a serious contender by what he did with his time there
He won a cup with the ducks
Now look at the leafs, playing great hockey, and that roster was pretty much constructed by him

Yes he has made some odd moves, but Homer has probably made way more. If we are to fire Homer, I would definitely give Burke a chance to restructure the issues here. At least he is able to find good young goalies and build from the net out. Id love to have a GM that brought in good young D, or developed them through the draft.

Keep Lavy for year. Worst case we replace him and go on a tear and finish 9th.

All I can say is, ever since Burke was fired by the Leafs it has been so much more tolerable here in Toronto as a hockey fan. The guy has to be in the forefront of EVERYTHING and stifles the team. He is also extremely negative and picks fights with people. I don't want him anywhere near the Flyers.

I would honestly fire both Homer and Lavy at the same time.

Lavy is a no brainer at this point and is living on borrowed time.

The general rule is that a GM gets to have 2 coaches before he is let go and, according to my abacus, Lavy is Homer's second coach.

I would be ecstatic with Hextall or guys like Paul Fenton, Brad Treliving, or Jim Nill as GM and Murray as the interim to finish this nightmare out. Then our new GM can pick his own HC in the off season.

Murray coaching this team might get us a Seth Jones.

I'm still a fan of Homer. I know it has been a year and a half but not many teams can overcome a loss like Chris Pronger. He was arguably the most important player on and off the ice for the team and he was just taken away from the team. He tried his best and made a serious attempt at Weber. You can't fault him for lack of effort. I put the Bryzgalov signing more on Snider and none of us could have expected him to be this bad. Holmgren has still assembled a very talented young core and this team is only a piece or two away. I acknowledge that he has his faults but I don't think he is the one holding this team back from a cup.
