It would be funny if a lot of people though this way and their sales skyrocketed even though the game is clearly flawed (for the moment)

There's almost no way that EA's offer extends to their entire catalog. Very likely it will be like a free game under $20, or a limited selection. Notice how they haven't actually told you what game(s) they're offering for free. They're just looking to cash in on some good publicity and maybe sell a few more copies, and hope nobody notices when their offer is substantially less than it first appeared.

The game works fine for me so I'm psyched about the free game. I'll take a $20 game and not complain

The only flaw is the overloaded servers

Once you get in it's a fine game

That's why the indignation is so funny...like how you are so "inconvenienced" because the servers are down because everyone is trying to play this game. This isn't the only game out there. Go play Sim City 4 or something. Yes, this whole game should have been offline to start with, and the DRM shouldn't be online, but meh. Go play something else until EA fixes it up

These problems will be fixed, it will take time

You're wrong about it being a "fine game" once you get in.

If it was working properly it would be a fine game, but the DRM and online issues make the game much more frustrating than it should be. The goal of the game is to make use of the whole "shared terrain" thing, yet with the glitchy online play it doesn't work properly.

My casino city was getting seriously ****ed by a traffic jam at the region entry. The jam spanned the entire length of the city plot, preventing anything from coming in.

The main complaints (if you ignore the server issue)

- Small map size (which you don't even notice)

That's it

I find it funny that it isn't fixed yet.

I find it funny it's a $60 game.

I find it funny how much the DLC is.

I find it funny how the AI is broken to the point where they likely can't make the city sizes any larger.

I find it funny that they touted the game as online-only to accomodate a lot of online features which have now mostly been disable to make it work at all.

I find it funny they only did a minimal stress test that they completely controlled on a limited time-frame.

There's a lot about the launch I find funny, people complaining isn't high on that list.

The AI is also pretty flawed.

Listen I played the same game you all did before it came out

It's fine

The game is great, the only issue is the small city size. That's it. Everything else is better. The graphics are astounding if you have the hardware. The ability to upgrade and manage additions to buildings is amazing. The grid does take some time to get used to, and the keyboard controls...you can't just press a key and get a road like you could in Sim City 4.

Barring these extremely superficial complaints, when you actually get a chance to play the game instead of suffering from server issues, it is a great game. The largest complaint right now is the server issue, but when you get past that, and actually play the game, you will enjoy it.

I dunno ... the AI for the Agents being broken and basically unfixable is a pretty big deal to me. The AI development is also the reason for the small city size, if they increase the size the flaws only grow expontentially.

EDIT:

To be fair to maxis I do like a lot of the ideas they had and some look like they would be very fun, such as the expandable buildings, the circular roads, even the rource management and the trade functionality. Good things. I hope in a future SimCity these are implemented.

Server issues aside the game is not great, at the moment mediocre at best. You mentioned small city size already, and I will give you that the graphics are very good. The game itself is lacking though. No highways? (product of small city size), no subways (or better mass transit), cities should be not isolated from each other and with that small city size, much of it is taken up by mountains or water. At the moment there are too many bugs to ignore (and I have played some buggy games).

I am enjoying it as much as I can, but to say it is fine (other than server issues) you must have blinders on.

PS. I could not care at all that it is online only (for me that is not the point), (server issues? they will be fixed) but to release a AAA title in the state and unbalancing that this is in is a slap to the face of gamers. They should have gave it 6 more months or a year to get it right.

Civ V was crucxified when it was released as well (fair comparison I think) but at least it was playable.

I really dislike how small the map sizes are. Right now my industrial sector is screaming for works and I don't have any more space to zone residential

Explain to me why to release a game that will "take time" to fix. Should we not expect a game, or any other product, to work once we buy it (tiny bugs aside, that I understand). Oh, I bought a brand new car but dont expect to drive it until we fix the 4 flat tires that could take weeks or months but you can sit in it and pretend?

Welp, my spending finally caught up with me and I had to abandon. Somehow taking out 300,000 in bonds repeatedly is a poor fiscal decision.

Problem is there aren't 4 flat tires

It's one issue

I will say it sucks that EA left out subways and expressways, and they'll probably be added in a costly expansion pack which costs like 30 bucks

I played a game - invested in it got a 100k+ size city that was going to grow quickly and now I can't play it.

Why? 5 minutes into every attempt at playing it I get a booted to the menus and then I need to either a) rollback my city (lose all the progress I made in those few minutes) or b) abandon it entirely.

Yeah, I guess my complaint of not wanting to restart after every little glitch is a bit superficial.

Your going to have a tough time defending this game. ATM it is broken in so many ways (server issues not withstanding). If you think that the only issue is server issues you are blind to the core issues and bugs of the game.

They should shut down the entire game for a week, month or however long it takes to fix it properly (always online is not going away). A hotfix here and there is far from fixing this game. It needs many, many more man hours to make a playable game worthy of the Simcity name.

Same thing happened with Battlefield 3 and BF3 is now a solid game save for rare issues

EA will fix it eventually, the issue as I said before is people think this is the only game in the entire world. It's not

Also, many people are complaining, but many people seem to have no issues at all. I guess I'm in the latter

Just got the Deluxe Edition of SC4 on TPB. I haven't played a Sim City game in about 10 years so I have no idea if I even want to play it.

For those who do want to play the new game, here's a comprehensive list of the servers and their current statuses: http://173.172.103.29/

I think that is the point of it all. Why release a broken game (take your time and do it right), and that what is what angers me the most. We are all being charged 50-80$+ for a game that EA will fix eventually. I would feel much better if I was being charged 50-80$ for a game that did not need major fixes (and Simcity needs major fixes). Small bugs I can deal with but not the mess of this game.

There is a reason that EA was voted most hated company and they are doing nothing to help themselves.

Yes I read a few programmers (not from Maxis but elsewhere) talking about the AI issues and how they are near impossible to fix to make the current AI work in a reasonable manner.

I also just finished watching video (I will put below) where the gentleman has quite the rant about how EA just pulled SimCity Deluxe and Sims 3 off Android because the ratings were shrinking like crazy because EA had put an update in the APP info saying they were compatible with ice cream sandwich, but they were not... so many people paid for those games that didn't work, then EA waited a few months, never fixed anything and pulled the games off Google Play.

Uh the city size is ridiculous and so is the fact that their are certain maps instead of randomly generated maps. How about the fact that there is no terraforming in the game at all? Its called SimCity not SimCities, you shouldn't have to build 3 shell's when you are just min-maxing them to make one City awesome.

Some people aren't easily satiated by ****, how's War Z?
