So glad to hear this. Being a fan in the east it's fairl easy to catch games of eastern teams. Now with my team playing more western teams I'll be able to catch some games against teams like Chicago, Minny, and St. Louis more. Teams I'd like to see with players I like. Particularly Pietro and Brodin who I'd love to see. Minny could also become a great rivalry.

I think the beauty of this realignment is:

(1) Winnipeg playing against the teams it should be (ie: Central Time Zone teams)
(2) Winnipeg is playing against 4 of their 6 closest proximity teams
(3) We will now see Vanc, Edm & Calg 4 or 5 times total each year in Wpg + will still get Ott, Tor & Mont 3 times
(4) With the "wildcard" system...it is even possible for Wpg to play a Cdn. matchup in playoffs before round 3

Even Colorado in our division as opposed to Detroit/Columbus makes sense.

When one looks at a map...this realignment is smart in almost every way!

Van Cgy and Edm will be in Winnipeg once each season, and we will be going there once each season, same as the Mtl, Tor, Ott. We play each non-division team twice, no matter if they are in the same conference or not.

Not unless they've just changed it ... according to what I've seen it's 3x for the other division in the conference, 2x for the other conference and 5x for your own division except for one team that will be 4x (in the East, there will be more 4x in your own division).

What a lot of people are missing is that, despite all this talk about the big new rivalry with "Minni" etc., in reality one or two of Edmonton, Calgary or Vancouver will generally be visiting Winnipeg as often as the Wild does (every other year, at least, when the extra Jets-Wild game is in St. Paul).

No surprise, but the BOG officially put their stamp on the re-alignment:

Looking forward to having the Jets in Edmonton at least once, sometimes twice a year! Not looking forward to playing the hawks 4 or 5 times a year, but still should make for an interesting season. Go Jets!

I remember Lawless sayign last week that the proposed "central" division name was gonan be used for the "mid-west" division and they would use a new name for the "central". Which made more sense. I assume they couldn't come up with consensus names for the time being

I wouldn't expect them to call them anything beside 'A','B','C'. etc. Anything more substantial has the risk of becoming a 'permanent' name, builds expectations and assumptions, and has every yahoo coming out of the woodwork demanding 'Smythe' and 'Norris', or whatever.

NHL.com:
"The divisions will be temporarily referred to as Division A, Division B, Division C and Division D. Permanent names will be assigned later."

They must have read my previous post knocking the "Mid-West" name

I like the division we are in. We should develop a good rivalry with the Wild. Hopefully the NHL can schedule a Jets/Wild game on Boxing Day like they used to with the Jets1.0/North Stars.

Since were in Division B. I think we should just give it a temporary name... the Hainsey Division.

Division is great for road trips. Direct flights to Chicago/Denver on Air Canuckistan/United and direct flight or drive to Minneapolis for the Wild.

As usual nothing is perfect, and the NHL has opened itself up to “sportsmanlike dumping” – ie losing a game purposely to improve your chances at the ultimate goal (best playoff matchup on way to Stanley Cup)

A
ANA 103
CAL 102
EDM 85
LA 84

B
WPG 107
COL 98
DAL 96
MIN 94
NASH 93

Last game of the season, ANA plays CAL. Guess what? If ANA wins, they then face 94 pt MIN. If ANA loses, they face 85 pt EDM. Of course ANA will say they are trying to win, but this is not good for anybody and the fault lies with the rules.

PS. At least they were aware enough to realize West teams playing 29 division games (5 games vs 5 teams, 4 games vs 1 team) mathematically will not work out with an odd number of teams. Hence the “exception - one team from each division plays one less game inside Division and one more game inside Conference outside Division”.

Maybe. However you can use this exact same argument with the current format...

LAK 112
STL 111
CGY 92
DET 102
SJS 101
DAL 100
....
SJS plays last game against DAL...exact same thing...

So you think a team will purposefully lose, potentially give up home ice advantage in the division finals, to play a marginally weaker team? Seems far fetched to me. Plus, if the situation presented intself the difference in points would likely be 2 or 4 not 10

I like the realignment but I don't like the fairly high 50%ish chance that division winners need to play weir first round across multiple time zones and the 2-3 teams get to play within eir own division.
Crossover should only go into effect if 5 teams from one division make the playoffs.

Looking forward to officially hating you all now. Should be good too because of thrashers fans being close to our city who either hate you all too or followed.
