James Andrews: RG III 'way ahead'

"We have him well on his way," Andrews told the NFL Network. "His recovery is way ahead of schedule so far. We don't have to do much but try to hold him back, if you want to know the truth. Our whole mode for him though is to do what is best for his career, not necessarily what is best for the first game next season. So all of that has to be put on hold and let him get well."

Love it, although I'll keep my expectations tempered until we're deeper in the recovery process.

Alex Smith traded to KC for a 2013 2nd (34th overall) and anywhere from a 2nd to a 4th in 2014, depending on the source.

With all of the QBs having lackluster combines, this is definitely the off-season to maximize QB trade value. If I were the Redskins, I'd think about trading Cousins even with all of the RGIII uncertainty.

The Chiefs are idiots....they just traded for Trent Dilfer 2.0 minus the HOF defense behind him to make him effective.

NFL FA starts soon. The Skins are currently 3 mil over the cap with the 18 mil cap hit factored in. Considering that, what moves do the Skins make to free up Cap space to resign their own players and get some needed help from pending FAs? Here are a couple guesses:

Restructuring:
Williams
Garçon

Cut:
Moss
Hall
Fletcher - if he doesn't retire.

Not a chance they cut Fletcher, and probably not Moss either. The leaked news about cutting Hall was probably to pressure him into taking a pay cut.

Carriker needs to take a pay cut or hit the road. He's not worth 3.4 mil.

Moss easily can be cut, and Fletcher is a long shot, but any player can get cut at any time. Moss and Fletcher have been good players for the Skins, but if Art Monk can finish his career in a uniform other than the Skins, Moss and Fletcher are not untouchable.

And Hall should be cut. He will count 8 mil against the cap and there will be no dead money on the cap if the Skins cut him. He is a play maker with the ball in his hands, but he sucks at the primary job of a CB in the NFL. Covering opponents WR's. Cheap vets like Dunta Robinson and/or Chris Gamble can easily replace him.

Also, Adrian Wilson was cut by Arizona. Keep an eye on him at Safety. Another cheap vet.

Rob Jackson, Darrell Young and Logan Paulson resigned. Look for Hall to be cut for sure.

I believe Moss, Hall, Carricker, and possibly Chester our cut tomorrow. Or some combination of the 4, possibly a 5th guy.

Supposedly one of Chesters' knees are shot.

Teams need to be under the cap when the new league year starts. I believe that is on Tuesday when FA opens.

Interesting to read a rumor that Chris Chester has a shot knee. The guy hasn't missed a game (?) since he signed with the Skins. With Lichtensteiger resigned to a 5 year deal, and LeRiebus in the mix at guard as well, the Skins can affored an injury to Chester. Hope its not true though, O-line depth is crucial.

Also, can't see Carricker getting cut unless he isn't recovering from his quad injury. He just signed a cap friendly 3 year deal before last year, and it showed how much the D needs him when he was out. Jenkins wasn't 100% after his knee surgery and the pass rush suffered.

We will see. The Skins were 3 million over the cap, including 18 mil penalty, before the re-signings being rumored and announced so Shanallenhan need to start cutting. Hall and his 8 mil ungarunteed 1 year deal would be a logical start.

Yes, but that included salary numbers for the players just resigned. So they weren't zero's, right? I dont think the Skins were 3m over AND had to sign all these players as being counted at zero.

That said, Hall, Moss can go. I love Moss, and am meh about Hall..but thats almost 15m right there.

Vaya con dios, gentlemen

If Banks and Hall go, we are losing our polarizing figures.

D Hall is Ribeiro. Trash talking feisty and looking for a bigger better deal.

A corner in the draft. Someone from the heap come cut time.

I still think they have to look to extend Orakpo, or move him.

Dunta Robinson is available, and probably cheap. Carlos Rodgers might also return home. The Skins can pick up some cheap vets to replace hall. Safety is a bigger concern, IMO.

4:30pm presser about free agency today. Don't recall that happening before. Comments about the cap penalties? Possibly. I'll be listening.

Rick Smith‏@RickSmith1956

Proud to announce that Tony Pashos @BigGreek79 has signed with the Washington Redskins #redskins

Guy is huge, but was out of football with a foot injury last year so he could turn into a Greek version of Jammal Brown. Regardless, he is an upgrade over Polumbus. And Polumbus could be re-signed still as a back up. He is like Lichtensteiger and Grossman, if they aren't in a Shanahan type offense their worth diminishes greatly.
