Not to mention Battlefield 3 inexplicably crashing whenever people tried to join a server, rendering the game unplayable for a huge amount of people after a certain patch.

So I got my little city close to 5k citizens. Need to boost up my income though.

Any thoughts on how to reduce germs? My citizens were protesting like crazy even though I had 2 clinics taking care of everyone.

You probably need schools (dumb people don't know how to take care of themselves, I guess, is their logic) and/or you have a ton of pollution/sewage buildup. 5k is very small to be having protesters over healthcare, especially if you have 2 clinics. I've gone with one clinic for cities with 100k and not had protesters.

Make sure you're paying attention to wind direction as well when placing industrial zones, people get sick when they are down wind

Can you fill in that spot between the two cities to make it somewhat continuous?

That's really the only part of the regional stuff that bothers me, I wish the borders were adjacent so the cities could be contiguous.

Yeah, I really hate all of that blank space. I love my cities to be big sprawling megacities...having miles of grass between two squares of steel and concrete is a bit off.

I actually like what they were trying to do with it, and I think it will eventually be fully realized...but I don't think those large swaths of empty spaces are going anywhere and that just takes me out of it. It's a nit-picky thing, but if really screws with the aesthetic of a big city.

Absolutely agree, on top of that you're left with the one predefined road that connects the cities so if you don't plan out your roads well at the entrance to your city, you can end up with some really bad traffic jams once you get a high population. I'd like to be able to have multiple connections to neighboring cities, I think it would help greatly for a lot of traffic problems people have.

I'm hoping that either with DLC or future mods (i'm really hoping for the former, but you know there will be DLC at some point) there will be maps with adjacent cities, if not with the connections i'm talking about but at least for the aesthetics.

It'd also allow you to plan suburbs and stuff so that every city doesn't end up being a mass of skyscrapers.

City sizes don't seem THAT bad... by those screenshots at least. Still small, but not unplayable.

Doesn't seem like you need to bother with grade schools. A university accepts everyone right off the bat, and gives you the best return. Expensive, but also allows research. Techs up your industry pretty fast.

+Individual Sims in the city seemingly live "real" lives, you can follow them around on their commute and to other places. Each Sim is simulated individually (rather than only seeing them when zoomed in and were a graphical representation and not a true simulation)
+Building roads is more robust, curved roads and all roads are easily upgrade-able

The bad:
-Always online
-Smaller maps; geared more towards building multiple cities in a region rather than a sprawling metropolis
-No local saving
-Some of the AI is buggy, especially if you don't manage your road placement rather meticulously
-The server outages on launch caused loads of problems with regional sharing and saving cities properly, you're at the mercy of the servers for a lot of the gameplay. I've not had as bad an experience with this as some other people and it's seemingly getting better by the day.
-No subway system

You also don't have to do placement of utilities like power and sewage lines, depending on who you ask this can be good or bad

With all of that being said, i'm really enjoying it... server issues aside.
Like I've been saying, the game is fine other than server issues

There are cons, but no game is perfect. It is playable once you get past the server aspect.

Am 95% sure I'll go pick it up today.
I know EA "sucks" but I also know they'll fix their ****.

I almost bought SC4 on Steam but I'd rather drop an extra $40 and get the new thing.

The HFBoards 2 region is not yet full...lots of spaces open.

What does the other one look like? (XX) I'd like an invite to that region as well - username is sting004.

How many of those mini cities are there available on the map.
In DFG's pic I see 2. Are there more than 2?

Figured I'd share.
http://www.reddit.com/r/SimCity/comm..._instructions/
And also ask DFG if anything bad would happen if I decided to do it.

Is that one on NA east 1??

Invite me on that one. Someone else will have to invite to the original, since I made the mistake of abandoning a city without realizing I would lose access to the region.

Sim City should never have been playable online only. The idea is that you can just play it on your own. Sadly, it's the way games seem to be going this days. EA have gone massivley downhill over the years. Was hoping to buy this as it looked really good but I think I'll wait until they fix it.

Those saying EA might make it offline. Forget it. That's too much common sense and EA don't do that.

If EA really wanted it to be an online game then they should've used Steam and paid them to host it. But their ego is more important.

If it gets busy they can be a bit iffy if you want to get into them. If you're already on the servers - you're good (although occasionally you DC and reconnect but you won't even realize it if you're not looking at the messages in top left saying that is what happened).

Right now when not so many people are playing? Servers are fine.

It's disappointing the fix took longer than what I expected but the game is pretty playable now.

How bad are the games problems now - nearly a week after release?

I'm really tempted to buy the version from India and save $45
