I'm really glad that I read the GDT. Now that I know Leighton is starting I'll probably go run a few errands instead of watching this game.

GG Sabres.

Lets see how they react to a really poorly played game. I would like this team to get some confidence going forward. Even if they don't make the playoffs a string of wins would be good for them going into next season.

We already seen the reaction. Was completely disgusted, but not surprised with yesterday after they blew the Pitt game. Yesterday was all I needed to know about them, especially after a leader says they packed it in after going down 1-0. Theyre going to hear it good tonight if they don't show up and it will be well deserved.

While its funny and of no consequence since we're losing this is disturbing to me. Leighton I mean. Going into the season with a poorly designed team and absolutely zero goalie depth was bad enough. The fact that this franchise keeps bringing Michael Leighton in and turns to him as their fallback plan in goal as if they expect him to turn things around is seriously disturbing to me.

Im actually afraid that if we keep losing homer will try to fix us by trading our 1st.

Sigh

If the team continues to lose i don't think even homer would trade away our first. my concern is if they actually start to win some games giving people a false sense that the team could actually do something (make the playoffs/make a playoff run), which we all know won't happen, he'll trade away a first and Couturier for some over the hill D-man or one getting up there in age like Boyle.

Yeah if it's looking like a high pick I don't see Homer moving it. You never know with Homer though so I could be wrong.

Who knows with Homer. People call him ballsy but I prefer to compare him to a roulette wheel.

I doubt it. I think Homer knows we suck and realizes how valuable our 1st is. Homer did a pretty good job in 06-07 when he was brought in (he just ****ed up down the line by not getting a goalie...well, he did potentially have a good, young goalie, but he screwed it up by...nvm, that's a whole different story). He's pretty much in the same position this year. Hopefully he can makes some trade to help this team in the future (moving Briere, Coburn, etc.)

This team is really good on paper, indeed. They were good last year, too. Who did we lose? JVR? Injured half of the year, played very well without him. Jagr? He was also often injured/played hurt. Very good player, but his age was definitely catching him up at the end. Our team success didn't depend on him. Matt Carle? Does Carle really changes a team that much? No. Plus, we added L. Schenn who plays well, Schenn, Voracek and Simmonds have considerably improved, etc. There's no way we're not a playoff caliber team. It's just a matter of circumstances, it's a weird season for us. This team will be good next year.

Yes they can. If you're solely looking at names then it won't look as bad. Still even in that narrow view then theyre still bad. Gagne, Briere, to a lesser extent Fedotenko are over the hill. Girouxs not playing to par until recently. Couturiers offensive game hasn't developed at all yet. Simmonds and Read aren't necessarily true top six players (Read is easy to make a case for though), the only d on the list that stands out offensively is Timonen and he's aging. In goal were really bad. Bryz hasn't proven he's not a product of Phoenix's system yet and our backups are Brian Boucher and Michael Leighton.

I don't think it's been confirmed yet but most likely it will be Leighton. So pretty much Buffalo's guarenteed 5+ goals tonight.

For not being a "true top 6" guy Simmonds sure does score a lot of goals.

You're making excuses. Losing any of those three on their own wouldn't have been bad but all three together probably accounts to well over 100 points of offense lost. You can't just lose that much and replace it with L. Schenn. Not when our farm system is barren aside from Laughton.

Can't believe you compared Carle to Schenn. The former is more established and they play completely different styles. Voracek has broken out but Giroux isn't playing on the elite level he was last season (or at least didn't start off that way) and Couturiers offensive game hasn't developed.

There's no Chris Pronger in this league right now. We definitely need a top Dman to be contenders, but we still shouldn't be among the worst teams in the league with our current lineup. But it's over now, they have litterally no chance at making the playoffs unless a miracle happens. Let's just use this bad season to our advantage and try to get a top Dman in the draft instead of blowing up our offensive core.

He's never gotten even 50 points and last season was his only season he's topped 16 goals. The consensus is he's a borderline top six guy and its because he is.
