It will be very exciting to follow the Rivs next season. Guys like Rattie, Jaskin, Edmundson, and Binnington will be particularly exciting for me. Hopefully they can turn the organization around.

Basil McRae is a minority owner of the London Knights and played for them in junior. Phil wasn't going anywhere but London. The junior drafts are as shady as it gets. Many deals are worked out ahead of time which usually revolves around how much money a kid is going to get. Especially the CHL Import Draft where the rich teams get all the European talent. The CHL is slowly starting to crack down as the sanctions to Windsor and Portland were pretty harsh. But back then the reason all the teams passed on Phil was because they knew were he was going.

That would be nice, and long overdue.

I really would like to see the Blues make a run at some of the college free agent defensemen this year. Interesting article on DeKeyser, Sustr, Taker, etc. With Edmundson being one of the few legit prospects close, that may be a way to refill our talent pool.

Šustr and Schmidt are the 2 that I would really want. I think Šustr could probably go into the NHL next season; not as physical as you'd like someone as huge as him to be, but he uses his frame really well and is physical enough. Skating has really improved and his game is obviously so much better for it. Move Cole+ for Giordano and sign Šustr for a Šustr-Polák pairing and our defense would look amazing going forward.

Would like Rylan Schwartz as well...

DeKeyser is almost certainly a Red Wing next season.

I saw two saturday and one yesterday. Must've changed one. Impressive line for him with 4 goals and 13 assists as a freshman. He might be the steal of the draft. If not Lindbohm... Can't complain about Schmaltz year either.

This link says he his joining the Rivs, and his twitter says something about going to the airport(google translate sucks!). No idea how reliable this source is, though.

Quick scouting report on Hakanpaa for a man not well versed in such things?

Decent skater for his size, quite a good slapshot. May struggle with the puck in his own end, has been hampered with injuries quite a lot: knee injury last February, missed remainder of the season and just barely returned for this year (pre-season started in August, season in mid-September), then another foot injury in November, missed about month as well as broken finger in January.

Excited to hear this. Very high on Hakanpaa, and very glad he's on the North American track now. He's a huge guy who skates with athleticism in an EJ mode.

Will he play on the 16th? That gives him 2 days of practice and a morning skate to get acquainted.

Jaskin didn't play again tonight but Viellieux had the hat trick and an assist. 34 goals and 38 assists this season.

I'd love to see an Eronen-Hakanpaa pairing in Peoria.

The Hockey News did a re-ranking of the 2012 draft and Schmaltz didn't receive a vote, so he was outside of the top 50. I guess take that for what it's worth, not much, he was going to be a long project anyway.

I questioned the pick at the time and only seen him play once but I trust our front office to know what they are doing

I get the sense it could be like the Oshie pick. We all have a WTF moment, but years later, we'll be like, ok good job scouts, guess that's why you're professional scouts.

To be honest their really wasn't anyone that stood out to me when we picked. I wanted Samuelsson but I'm not losing sleep over the fact that we skipped over him. Gaunce seems nothing more than a 3rd liner, same with Matteau, Pearson never really impressed me, and Skjei's stats look terrible so far. Schmaltz has pretty decent numbers as a rookie at UND, and their really is no pressing need to rush him, especially with guys like Hakanpaa, Eronen, and Edmundson in the pipeline.

The Blues have agreed to an entry-level deal in principle with prospect Ryan Tesink. http://blues.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=660049 #stlblues
Ryan Tesnik signed his ELC. Here comes the new crop for Peoria!

Yeah, I remember a lot of fans wanting us to take Gaunce with that pick, and he's not ranked in the top 50 either.
