I liked Mike Sauer alot in his draft year, but I didn't want the Rangers to select him and was vocal about it. He had been injured and Kurt Sauer his older brother was also an injuryfest.
Oh yes, I forgot...everything on the internet is true. Are you the french model in that commercial?
Oh, so when you were directing him to "read up on this" you were directing him to a library? Wikipedia is usually pretty decent.
Also, what you've written and the articles you reference are also on the internet, FYI. I certainly didn't assume that anyone here knew the Sauers personally.
In any event, I feel for that family. Kurt's injury has to be particularly frustrating as it seems to have not improved much at all in years. Really sucks.

Kurt Sauer has a whiplash injury. He has made excellent progress over the past year (and has attended some Coyote home games) but he still has injury symptoms. The reading I referred to is two articles in the Arizona Republic that I have linked several times in this thread.
Wikipedia is a good, not great source. Take what you read with a grains of salt. I correct about one error a week in various areas.

Yeah, I read the two articles you referenced. Seems like a really bizarre injury with a myriad of symptoms. Must be frustrating as hell for him.
Avs first round pick Joey Hishon played his first game in 22 months last night. He was concussed in the 2011 Memorial Cup.
Quote:
Hishon first underwent treatment at the Cleveland Clinic. It wasn't until he began seeing Dr. Ted Carrick at his Life University lab in Atlanta that he started to feel better.
Carrick, a former chiropractor who has pioneered treatments of brain injuries using a "whole body gyroscope," was credited with developing treatments that helped heal the concussion of NHL star Sidney Crosby.
"I saw Dr. Carrick this summer, and since then things have completely turned around," Hishon said. "It's been so, so much better. I've got to give so much credit to him and his staff. But there are also just so many other people who have helped me along the way, I can't even begin to mention. But Dr. Carrick has a lot of different techniques for different eye movements and putting you in the gyroscope — that thing that spins you around like a roller-coaster. It activates parts of your brain while shutting off other parts. It really gives you a kick-start. It was amazing for me."
The whole mention of a gyroscope reminds me of something that I went through personally.
At the end of my college career I took a big hit or two and may have gotten a concussion. For about 2-3 months I was experiencing some odd vertigo and a little light-headedness at random times. Some days it would be pretty intense and then others, not so much. It was freaky and as you could imagine very uncomfortable and annoying.
I did my own research of the symptoms and found out that it may have had to do with my inner ear and how the fluid got flipped over and trapped into an area that causes vertigo, dizziness, etc.
I went to a few doctors and nothing they suggested helped. I was pretty desperate to try anything at that point to get rid of it, and I wound up curing myself by finding a unique set of maneuvers to the head that allows the fluid to drain from the area and return to its rightful spot. The symptoms immediately went away and never came back.
I'm sure Sauers been taken care of by the Rangers and has seen specialists, but you never know if theres someone or something out there that offers an alternative to your situation. Everyone's body is different. That sounds like some pretty revolutionary therapy he should check out.
Guillaume Latendresse was also a patient of Ted Carrick's after suffering a season-ending concussion last year.
Quote:
Carrick uses a GyroStim, a multi-axis rotating chair that spins in an attempt to stimulate the vestibular system. Latendresse did 60-70, 30-second spins during a five-day stretch.
"The first time I went there, I saw a huge change," Latendresse said. "I felt a real click that I haven't felt since five, six years ago. My energy level is higher. My body just feels 100 percent."
Latendresse believes so strongly in Carrick's treatment, he brought Pierre-Marc Bouchard, who has a history of concussions and missed the second half last season, with him to Marietta in late May.
Quote:
"It's like I never had any concussion," Latendresse said from his home in Montreal. "I feel 100 percent. I'm doing training like before. I have nothing. I can't even remember when my last headache was."
Is there any possible way that the Rangers medical team is not already aware of this Doctor and his treatment methods?
Bobhop do you have any way of reaching out to your contacts or the family to inquire as to whether there's any possibility that Sauer will explore this treatment option/method?
That's a good find, a good question for the beat reporters to ask the org.
the beat reporters don't talk to anyone in the org...kenny albert found out that marc staal was in the building the other night by following bob mckenzie on twitter
Torts injury policy is really annoying regarding Staal. I am sure many of the fans would like to know how he is doing and if he can see and such.... maybe a picture.
Have the Rangers sent Sauer to Dr.Carrick? 22 months would be October 2013 for Sauer.
Its great to hear about progress being made in this field.
In the SEL they will start to do studies by testing a big numer of player's eye movement -- when they are healthy -- so that you basically get a "eye-movement license". As it is now in the NHL and the SEL, you see if progress is made by looking at eye-movement -- but you do not have a baseline. You can't tell what's "normal" for the player who received a concussion. Sometimes someone makes alot of progress and you believe that he is cured, then is hurt instantly against because he wasn't 100%. When you have de facto "normal" eye-movement values you will be able to detect concussions with 100% certainty almost and you will also be able to tell exactly when someone is cured.
You will also be able to detect exactly what parts of the eye-movement that differs from what's normal, which helps you design a recovery program.

It may be annoying but it's the correct policy. If Staal is going to be out for another month, and the Rangers announce that, every team in the league will know that they have a need. And that increases the asking price on any defenseman they might try to acquire.
