That's exactly why we should just enjoy this win. Even the Oil did sit back a little but the battle in the dying minutes was refreshing.

They did way more right tonight than they have in 6 games. I will take it

That's the thing. He has been. Clearly he realized that he's not going to be on this team if all he brings is being a PP specialist. His game's been evolving a lot as the year goes on

Great 1st... 2nd and 3rd... not so much.

Exciting game though and I'd gladly have more of those all season... win or lose, rather than the dull snoozefests the Oilers usually have this year.

Run n Gun to the end.
Yeah, that's how i feel too and made a mention of it after the 1st when i had a feeling that Krueger would put the brakes to the offense.
Even if it means some odd man breaks the other way, this team has to play aggressive, high tempo hockey if they are to succeed. They aren't built to sit back and protect leads.
It's absolutely ridiculous that Krueger and Renney before him don't recognize this and play the hell out of plugs when the team gets a lead. Play to the teams' strengths, it should be simple. Keep putting pressure on the puck and play the skilled guys as much as possible and let them learn how to play with a lead.
I'm happy they got a win but there are still tons of disturbing signs and the coaching isn't helping to stem the tide.

Well they did score 24 goals in 4 games against the Hawks last year, so it shouldn't be a total shock they gave them 6 tonight.

i've said it a bunch of times, and i'll keep saying it (as it continues to be true): krueger has NO IDEA how to run a bench ... consistently playing the wrong players at the wrong times... it's laughably bad in fact
Case example of this. Gagner gets a lot of work on a pk late in the third, is barely off the ice for 30secs then gets another shift and the Oilers get hemmed in own end and a lot of trouble for it. A tired Gagner, playing with Petrell and Paajarvi. Sigh.

Several times in the game Horc seemed to be out there a longtime and wearing down as well. Sometimes it seemed like we were rolling 2 lines. Just weird bench management. Getting guys back out there tired is seldom a good idea.

Krueger is a ****ing moron.

That is all.

He was hired by morons and will be protected by morons.

And the team is owned by a moron.

Now I know how the 70's/80's Leafs fans felt.

I sort of agree... the main issue with Kruger was putting 4 forwards on the PP when we had the lead, why not put two offensive D men on instead of taking chances like this. But in terms of putting Yakupov on in the end, no way. He got so out of position on the play Dubie got hurt on. You need experience at the end especially with the pressure Chicago was putting on.

Hope that Khabi can come back and carry the workload.

There might be a silver lining. Khabi plays well enough to establish himself as insurance for a cup contender at the trade deadline.

I still don't know what the penalty was on Schultz for. Playing with a broken stick? Looked like he dropped it.

Agree, what did people expect from Chicago! They weren't gonna roll over and die especially after the boost they got from taking out our goalie and then having a AHL starter in. There are a ton of positives out of this game. The battled hard against an obviously better team.

Funny how even with this crappy run, even though the Oilers are 3 pts from 30th, they are only 4 pts from 14th.

Guess I'll head over to the Chicago board where maybe the slightest of anything positive tonight can be discussed.

There's no doubt that in the absence of Horcoff Gagner was required to do a lot more for the team.
I don't expect him to get any credit for that on this board though.

And all those shots they were giving up in the instance you mention above are counting against their corsi. People will look at the corsi stats later and say .... damn Gagner played with Yakupov and Paajarvi for most of the night and yet he got owned on corsi ... what a terrible defensive player, brutal, garbage.

The subtlety of the circumstances which occur in ice hockey (that any given player could be surrendering a lot of shots playing just a handful of shifts on a mismatch line specifically tasked by coach to desperately defend a lead) ... will not be apparent in the number generated by counting shots.

Tell me about it. That's easily the best team in the league outside of goaltending - it isn't close and their record speaks to that. People want the Oilers to take the play to them the entire game and win 10-0. There's no tougher building to win in and the Oilers got the two points. When you get up by four goals in this league you don't keep playing run and gun.

Granted it is concerning that we go into a shell when up by one but at four goals up it's tough to shut it down. Look at our game against SJ early in the year. They dominated the first and we took it to them for the last 40.
