Andre "Red Light " Racicot gave me great joy to watch when he was with the Habs.

To End The Debate

Jiri Crha was actually worth 2.38 WORP (Wins Over Replacement Player) in 1979-80, and was worth -0.27 WORP in 1980-81. That's not good, but far from worst goalie ever. According to the site HockeyMetrics.com, the worst goalies ever are (WORP is cumulitive, so the more games you play at a poor level, the worse you are):

1.) Ed Chadwick (1957-58, TOR): 70 GP, 3.19 GAA, 0.888 SVPCT, -9.45 WORP
2.) Craig Billington (1993-94, OTT): 63 GP, 4.59 GAA, 0.859 SVPCT, -8.47 WORP
3.) Peter Sidorkiewicz (1992-93, OTT): 64 GP, 4.43 GAA, 0.856 SVPCT, -8.41 WORP
4.) Ed Johnston (1966-67, BOS): 34 GP, 3.70 GAA, 0.866 SVPCT, -7.89 WORP
5.) Ron Low (1974-75, WAS): 48 GP, 5.45 GAA, 0.855 SVPCT, -7.102 WORP

As you can see, it depends greatly on the offense of the era what GAA and SVPCT are required to be horrible.

Not surprisingly, here are the career worst goalies:
1.) Ed Johnston -27.03 WORP
2.) Ron Low, -23.02 WORP
3.) Craig Billington, - 21.40 WORP
4.) Jim Rutherford, -20.60 WORP
5.) Dunc Wilson, -15.51 WORP

This. What a *********. You don't rag on your own teammates if they throw a stinker.

Yah because shots on goal is the best indicator of how many quality scoring chances a team had. smh.

Could not possibly be the when we all know without a doubt that Glenn Healey was the worst goaltender ever...and he is off to a fine start towards collecting the title of worst sportscast broadcaster ever. I remember my nickname for Healey was the "Healey-gram"...sure you could see him but pucks seemed to magically go right through him.

Was it Crha that looked great in practice and warm-up and then couldn't stop a beach ball during the games?

I don't have game logs for Crha (yet), but this game never happened.

This is every game between Toronto and St. Louis in 1979-80 and 1980-81:

http://www.flyershistory.com/cgi-bin....cgi?H19790133 (7-4 win, Palmateer in net)
http://www.flyershistory.com/cgi-bin....cgi?H19790162 (7-2 win, Harrison in net)
http://www.flyershistory.com/cgi-bin....cgi?H19790640 (5-2 loss, Crha in net)
http://www.flyershistory.com/cgi-bin....cgi?H19790714 (3-2 loss, Crha in net)
http://www.flyershistory.com/cgi-bin....cgi?H19800228 (6-4 loss, Crha in net)
http://www.flyershistory.com/cgi-bin....cgi?H19800383 (5-3 loss, Crha in net)
http://www.flyershistory.com/cgi-bin....cgi?H19800560 (8-4 loss, Crha in net)
http://www.flyershistory.com/cgi-bin....cgi?H19800748 (6-2 win, Larocque in net)

We can ignore the games where Crha didn't play (obviously), so let's look at the others in turn.

Shots: Toronto 39, St. Louis 30 (2-5 loss)
Shots: Toronto 31, St. Louis 35 (2-3 loss)
Shots: Toronto 33, St. Louis 27 (4-6 loss)
Shots: Toronto 39, St. Louis 34 (3-5 loss)
Shots: Toronto 51, St. Louis 40 (4-8 loss)

Crha certainly wasn't great against St. Louis (as the 0-5 record will show), but if you're going to throw someone under the bus, at least stick to the facts. None of the actual games are even close to the actual record. It's probably this game that he's referring to:

http://www.flyershistory.com/cgi-bin....cgi?H19790640

Shots were 21-8, Toronto, and it was 2-0, St. Louis, after the first period. I know that there's no fun in telling a boring story, and I know that it's been thirty years, but it's not particularly close (also, the final SOG were not 50-12 or anywhere near it).

As for Crha's record overall, he was well above replacement level in both of his NHL seasons:
http://hockeygoalies.org/bio/crha.html

Well above average his first year, and basically average his second year. David Shand should have focused on his own game, and not Crha's.

It's okay to close - when I'm Googling "Jiri Crha" and the first page has this link, I felt the need to set the record straight.
