Someone help a brutha out here.

I thought the NHL protocol (or at a minimum the Penguins protocol) is:

1. Rest / heal up after concussion
2. Start skating on your own, see how you feel.
3. If you feel good you can skate with the team BUT
4. You can't take contact until you get the IMPACT test first

Question 1: Is there a difference between the IMPACT test and the "baseline" test?

5. Then you practice with contact
6. Then you take ANOTHER test the next day to see if your score changed

Question 2: If you repeat 4-6 a couple times and your scores do not decline after taking hits in practices, you can be cleared to play in games?

Not sure about the entire protocol. He would probably have to clear some kind of test for even practice contact. Don't know if there is also another one maybe required by the NHL to clear you for a game?

I heard Malkin will be out 1-2 weeks with an upper body injury. This was in a DB interview after the game today.

I guess one good thing about having the two best players in the league is that if one gets hurt, we always have a spare

Seriously though, I hope he's just taking a little time off to get back on track. I would really hate if this is related to the concussion from a couple weeks ago.

In my opinion (because I don't know the facts), I believe it is concussion related. It's the timing, the lack of information given about the nature of the injury, and it wouldn't be the first time the media and fans have been deceived. I hope it's not related. I truly don't. Malkin reminds me so much of the man I been so fond of for the past 20 years of this sport. It would have been nice if were given a little more to go on than he's out with an "upper body injury." That's very vague.

It's not concussion related. Nothing in the incident seemed to indicate that and why would they lie when he has one? It's not like they can keep it under wraps for ever. The reason why they are vague is because he probably has a shoulder injury and they don't want the opposition to know for sure, so they start targeting it.
