Dan Carcillo - What gives?

Am I wrong to suggest hes struggling? When are we going to see the old Carcillo?
Will he ever get a shot back in the top 6?

He's a good fourth liner who (some) Hawks fans have deluded themselves into thinking is a capable option in the top-6.

He's not. Doesn't have the offensive awareness. Hard work and a grinding style isn't enough on its own.

Yeah he's ok in the top six in spot duty but is not a permanent solution there by any means.

He was very noticeable in his first game or two back from injury but has struggled a bit since. Didn't have many minutes today.

He still needs a bunch of games to get back into it. You guys realize he has only played like 5 games in the last 1 1/2 years...right?

He's not that good of a hockey player.
If he was, he would have seen a hell of a lot better of the 775k offer from the Hawks before the last extension.

Right. He's still playing himself back into shape. That said, he doesn't belong in anyone's top 6, let alone a team as skilled as the Hawks. He doesn't have to be a goon, but he's a 4th liner.

Never said he was a top 6-er. Anyone who thinks he is, is kidding themselves. He can spot fill, but not play a permanant role.

This, plus he's only playing 4-5 mins a game.

The thing with the four to five minutes a game issue kind of a chicken or the egg kind of thing. Is he having a hard time getting back into it because he's only playing four or five minutes a game or is he only playing four or five minutes again because in the coaching staff's view he's not getting it done? I recall him playing more regular minutes the first few games he came back.

He needs a bigger sample size/role with this team if fans want to have the right to judge him, IMO.

Quality bottom-6 forward that can jump up in the top-6 from time-to-time. He's barely played over the past couple years, he'll be fine.

So every random grinder in the world needs to play a thousand minutes in an indianhead sweater before we can call him a random grinder?

Carcillo just scored, so knowing him he'll play like paste for about 8 games.

We have enough information to judge him.

Hawks looked a bit tired in the last couple games, I'm surprised his minutes have been so low but whatever.

His absence last year caused the tailspin, don't forget.

Yeah, 321 games isn't a large enough sample.

He said with this team. He only has 39 games under his belt as a Hawk. I don't think he's even remotely the same player here as he was in Philly. Unfortunately, I also think that last knee injury may have set him back a full year.

I'm not ready to judge a guys career as a Hawks who has only played 39 games, and has been significantly injured. At 825K for this year and next year, I have no issue with keeping him along. I think he can be useful to this team if that knee ever gets back to 100%.

Carcillo is the same player he was in Philadelphia, aside from that he's reigned himself in in Chicago - definitely plays with more caution now, which is a good thing. But as far as everything else? Same player. There's no need to wait to judge him. He's a grinder who belongs in the bottom-6, can hit and agitate, score a little bit... that's Carcillo.

He's a fourth liner who can score every now and then and eat up top 6 minutes in a pinch, nothing more than that. I'm looking forward to seeing how he plays for us in the playoffs though, he could have been a factor in the Phoenix series last year had he been healthy.

He's pretty much the same player, an above average bottom 6er who can be a below average top 6er when necessary.

I don't think he's as dirty, doesn't visit the box nearly as much, and has shown he can get under the skin and draw some PPs. I do wish he'd just be buried on the 4th line and never see top 6 action, though.

What I'm saying is that you can't judge a guy's performance on three to four minutes of action. It's like what Blue Liner said: Carcillo is either not good enough to warrant good minutes or the coach is making a mistake not playing him enough minutes.

I think Carcillo is a good extra forward and decent bottom-six player. He's nothing spectacular but respectable.

Yes, but I also know what Carcillo is. That wasn't being debated.
