Oilers vs Avs [Mar 12, 2013] "Battle of the Hawk Hunters"

Hi guys.

Let's win this one and go home on a good note. Horcoff has rejunvenated us and we must continue to stomp a proverbial mudhole in Calgary by winning games and leaving them in the pits of the western conference.

Also, whoever is making the GDT tomorrow, please message me. I have something cool I want to use.

Hopefully Kruegers strategy of waiting for more power plays pays off.

A regulation win tomorrow makes the road trip highly mediocre instead of an outright disaster.

3-2 Oil.

I doubt we'll win. Winning back to back games seems harder than making the playoffs for this team.

But you never know.

Which Oilers team will show up?

The good one: 3-1 Oilers

The bad one: 5-1 Avs

The Ugly one: 7-0 Avs

the lines were fine.

I just hope he doesn't nuke them again when we have a lead.

5-3 Colorado.

They'll score 3 in the first, one in each of the other two periods, and it'll be surprisingly boring.

There should be no reason why Potter, Peckham, sometimes Whitney, ever play ahead of Fistric.

As per usual, Nail Yakupov the last player on the ice at #Oilers practice, picking up pucks #loveshockey http://instagr.am/p/Wup6HdmzEg/

Works hard to get better.

Translation?

"Take a seat on the bench, kid." - Krueger.

He probably spits in his general direction as well.

Whitney's been progressing well this road trip, and Potter was arguably our best player last night. It'd be a slap in the face to either one of them to insert Fistric. Wait until one of them has a bad game--that's how accountability works.

Unless, of course, you're going to drop one of Nick Schultz (who has an A), Justin Schultz, Petry or Smid for Fistric?

If Fistric was faster, I'd drop Petry for him.

Oilers get outshot 25-12 in first 2 periods, but lead the game 2-1 off goals from Hall and Yakupov. Yakupov gets benched in the 3rd period because Krueger wants the team "playing not to lose". Ryan Smyth takes a dumb penalty, Avs score because Krueger refuses to play Paajarvi in "high pressure situations". Danis lets in a softie a minute later, Oilers then let in an empty net goal because Krueger opts to use Smyth+Horcoff+Hemsky+Petrell+Eager+Whitney on the 6v5 for "veteran presence".

4-2 Avs, HF Oil meltdown, Krueger gets extended, Smyth gets resigned to a 5 year deal.

You forgot the part where Krueger pulls Danis with 6 mins left in the game.

"Oh, look Duchene is skating towards us. Let's leave the puck for him to grab, and I'll slow down considerably to watch him skate by. Oh, nice goal!" - Oilers D every single time we play Colorado.

Is Dubnyk in? If he is I predict for his next brillaint move, he let's in a goal while rushing to the bench to clean a smear off of Gagner's visor.

I wish two things would change with Krueger's system:

1) I wish he would abandon the man-to-man marking system that's making our defencemen look awful by forcing them to scramble constantly. While this system makes it easier for the forwards to find their men and increases individual accountability ("it was your man!"), it's archaic. Our defence scramble, we lose composure, and we aren't in as good of position for transitions.

2) I wish we would stop doing the neutral zone tip for our breakouts or trying to ring it around the glass and make it a battle on the boards. Can't we just copy Montreal or Chicago?

Credit to BadMedicine and another poster for making me realize this is what I was watching.
