He lets in far more "softies" than a number one goaltender should.

Again, I agree, but its exaggerated here. Last year, he improved upon that as the year went on. I was hoping that he would get a handle on it, but he's kind of regressed a bit again in that area. I'm really hoping its because of the long layoff thanks to the lockout, and he gets better. I think the biggest issues on this team are not goaltending though, and we should work on other areas first.

Different situations IMO. We could use a little hope. Kipper was masking an old tired Flames teams shortcomings. We could use a goaltender who can bail the kids out. They are still learning. Not to mentio they are now in the top line role. Our leading scorer "veteran" of 6 years in only 23. Having a goaltender like Kipper would relieve some of that pressure on the kids.

I wish we had a GM who could do multiple things at a time. That's probably why we have all these problems that Tambo won't fix... He is too busy chewing gum.

Come on. There are a lot of issues more important than our goaltending.

Oilers are 10th in the NHL in save percentage. They are dead last in both shots against per game and shot differential.

The team in front of Dubnyk is the issue here not his goaltending.

Can't expect this management team to help with our on ice issues.

We absolutely need a better second option than Danis or Khabbi. Dubnyk needs some competition. I said so this summer and I say it now, we need more depth in goal.

The team needs to have confidence that we have two guys who can carry the load in goal. Dubnyk looks promising, but there is no decent relief if he goes through a bad stretch. Getting a better second goalie, or even starter is not an option thus summer.

Thank God Khabbi's contract is up.

Think Calgary would trade Rammo? Doubt it.

Rammo had a great year in Omsk. He is worth considering if he is available.

Perhaps, but I doubt the Flames trade him. I imagine he's Kipper's replacement since Irving seems ineffective and I doubt Joey MacDonald is the guy.

I think Hiller is the most attractive.

Dubnyk's brain farts and kitty cat paws handling loose pucks scares the hell out of me. hes very feast or famine. will make some mind blowing saves and then let in leakers.

outside of that, he has some decent skill... being 6'5" helps.

i dont really know if hes the answer in net, but i can see why people are a little skeptical.

What do you mean by not an option?

I like Jason Labarbera for 3 - 3.5 M total for a two year contract. Low enough that you don't mind burying him in the minors if a better option comes along. Enough experience to push dubnyk. If Dubnyk doesn't earn a new contract next season then just cut him loose and find a #1 with a serviceable backup waiting.

So now we are willing to give up next year too?

It doesn't matter how good your goalie is when your team can't score even if there life depended on it and there was no goalie in front of that net.

Craig Anderson would have something to say about that.

That would be such a terrible signing, it might actually get Tambo fired.

I say sign Backstrom to the exact same deal we gave Khabby. Then let Dubnyk walk after next season and hopefully Roy is ready. If not sign a veteran like Dan Ellis to back him up. If we can't get Backstrom to sign the deal then we have to push hard for Nabokov IMO.

Labarbera is admittedly a stop gap and not the answer if the goal is to win next year.

The answer is a true number 1. Who would that be?

No idea to tell the truth. But the answer isn't to give 3.5 million to Dubnykamd call him a #1 cause now he makes that money.

We pissed away 3 years of hall and eberle, and if next year blows them there goes RNH and Schultz's elc too. We are going to have to trade some of our players due to cap issues without having left the basement.
