So really its just Erskine. This team should not have been built so that John Erskine is the guy that folds the house of cards. If you told me going into the season that Green and Erskine would miss the same game, I'd have said "yeah, I'm sure, Green is alwaays hurt, Erskine is 6/7/8 D-men. So of course that will happen...probably a lot"

This team's Defense is terrible. Period End
That's fine and I don't disagree for the most part but like it or not Erskine has been playing a top 4 role on this team and Green is their number 1. I would say 80% of the teams in this league would likely struggle if their number 1 was already out of the lineup and another one of their top 4 went down 2 minutes into a game forcing them to play with 5 basically all game.

Going into this season the defensive depth chart was roughly Green, Alzner, Carlson, Hamrlik, Poti, Schultz, Orlov, Erskine, and Kundratek.

How much depth on defense should a team have? And are you under the impression that the rest of the league all has 9 guy depth charts all of whom are capable of playing 20 NHL minutes no problem?

So I 100% agree the defense needs to be upgrade but I also feel under yesterday's particular circumstances most of the league would also struggle.

If you commit to Mike Green as your #1 dman you better have damn good depth.

Sorry, just saw this.

Erskine should not be in the top 4. Had they actually had good defensemen, he'd be a #6/7, so his injury should matter. Stating he's top 4 for us so its the same as another team losing a top 4 is not accurate, and only further illustrates my points.

Look at the "depth chart" you listed. Green gets hurt 50% of the time, Hamrlik wasnt even good enough to keep and missed many games last season as a healthy scratch, Poti hasnt played in 2 years, Orlov was hurt even before our mini-camp started, Kundratek has never really played minutes in the NHL, and Schultz was a healthy scratch half of last season.

So....Alzner, Carlson, Erskine. 2 top 4's, a 6/7 d-man, and 6 question marks. How can any GM come into the season feeling that all of that is "ok"? I understand having 3 question marks out of 9...but 6??

Fire George

after mcphee, who do you want for the gm job and since gm's want their own coach, who should the next coach be? if they lose...sorry...after the lose tomorrow, oates will have proven that he is no different than any caps coach other than ron wilson. a choker.

what gm/coach combo can prove not to choke?

I think it's Ovi's pregame pasta meal that makes the whole team choke.

Stop eating pasta Ovi...

I wonder if the Caps will get stuck on the tarmac again this year.

(Rhetorical question).

Should have a contest of what George's excuse will be should they lose.

if we lose, I will say it was the shortened season. Started slow finished strong late, but it was just not quite enough time to get it all done.

The shortened season with a new coach might be a legitimate excuse though.

Other coaches in similar circumstance - Bruce and Therrien - were both bounced out by a lower seed.

We finished the year on a strong note and healthy. You almost could not draw it up much better.

Don't worry, Kuznetsov will solve everything. And then it'll be the next prized young inexperienced player. Then the next.

So indifferent about this team. On a fundamental level they haven't really earned anything more than that.

well you sure had that right. Score one for you, Tex,

We missed the Jim Nill boat, so we might as well stick with the turd we have, right? I mean, we know how this movie ends, and its so much fun, why mess with success?

Stupid team gave us some hope, but in the end, it is what it is. Caps are not built well, and its obvious, every single year

For Fricks sakes! FIRE GEORGE!!
