This is exactly what I was hoping we could avoid. It's so unnecessary. Just avoid the words good and bad and replace them with like and dislike. We'd avoid a lot of pointless bickering.

Montreal Concerts ‏@MTLConcerts

10 minutes to showdown and let me tell you that you will be floored by the LEGENDARY act that @osheaga has got in the bag for us.

By the way, if you have Twitter, this guy is a must-follow.

You're right - but the rest of the lineup is underwhelming. Hopefully the "over 20 artists still to be announced" will be crowd pleasers.

It's all fine and dandy that you don't find him good. But he fits perfectly with the hip-hop culture(both of them actually).
Art is the most subjective thing you can find out there.
I disagree with that. Why is art subjective? Consider cooking. If you like eating Big Macs, will you argue that they're better than expensive *insert delicacy here*? What about books? If you like reading Harlequin novels, does it mean that they're better than Stephen King novels? I don't understand this concept that music is somehow subjective and that you can't look at it from an argumentative point of view. Objectively, there are far more talented rappers using far better, more interesting beats, doing far cooler things than whatever Mackelmore is doing. If you don't like them (or aren't aware of them?), that's another story, but you can't say that someone can't be bad at art.

I think someone pointed out that his purpose is to appeal to people who are new to rap, and I think it's accurate. There are very few people really in to rap that'll find anything appealing with Mackelmore, just like very few people into punk rock will like Simple Plan, metal fans liking Nickelback, so on, so forth.
I also think the idea of "hip hop culture" is a bad generalization. Right now, some of the best/fastest rising rappers all have different cultures/personalities/etc. Look how different Danny Brown is to Joey Bada$$ (personally, my two favourite current rappers, do give them a listen. Joey is only 17 which is even crazier). Look how different they are to someone like A$AP Rocky or Drake or etc.

My point is that if rappers were foods, Mackelmore would be a twinkie.

Hope Kendrick Lamar and Big Boi are on the same day.. If not, don't think I'll be going. Not interested in anyone else really.

For me, except K-Dot, Beach House, Silversun Pickups and Phoenix, there's nothing really tempting. :/

The Cure and New Order... If both are on the same day, I'm definitely going. Would love to see EitS, Flogging Molly and Hot Chips too.

A lot of good stuff on that lineup, but it all depends on who's playing which date/when.

He's not Hopsin or anything but he's a good rapper.
Hopsin is awful

he makes Mackelmore look like Nas. So corny, so preachy lol.

Average lineup but still some solid artists: Alt-J, Pretty Lights, Explosions in the Sky, Flogging Molly, Baauer, The Gaslight Anthem, Misteur Valaire, GRAMATIK and A Tribe Called Red are all solid names. Lack of big names will hurt the event IMO.

I'm really digging this lineup. In fact, I'm almost tempted to buy a three day pass. Worse comes to worst, I can probably sell a ticket if I have to.

I suggest you guys check out Jake Bugg, this kid kinda reminds me of a young Bob Dylan.

Oh and also Ben Howard, who does a cool cover of Call Me Maybe.

Hopsin is "okay", he's just trying too hard to imitate the old eminem stuff

Funny, The Cure and New Order have a bit of a Montreal/Toronto rivalry going... Throw Morrissey in the mix and then you could add Boston! hahaha
