Half of these guys don't use their seed though. You aren't gonna see Darren Helm carrying the puck in full speed as often as you'd see Duchene or Gaborik doing it.

The answer to this question is Matt Duchene.

I give honorable mentions to Gaborik, Grabner and Evander Kane.

Swagelin's speed is like a hornet. There's no direct path, it's just that every time you turn around he's there. Might not be the fastest overall, but I love the way he uses his speed.

Hagelin/Grabner for fastest player with/out the puck
Letang/Karlsson/Skinner for best skating with/out the puck

The lack of Erik Karlsson in this thread baffles me...

Agreed. Karlsson is really really fast. Always seems to beat his guy on the back check.

I can not tell you how many times that I have seen Letang catch players who had a huge jump on him.

The fastest player I ever saw was former Pen K. Koltsov. He could skate faster than anyone, but he ZERO talent after that.

I have no idea why Craig Patrick took him in the first round. You never take a player in the first round who has never produced ever.

I don't think Cogliano is even the fastest guy on the Ducks. Fowler and Etem can fly.

To all those saying Hall, watch Pajaarvi. He looks faster at times than Hall.

When Etem becomes more in place in the league his name will be known for speed

That's mostly because of his acceleration rather than his top speed. As someone said earlier, I'd argue EK has the best acceleration in the league.

I wouldn't say Letang is an extremely fast skater, but I'd say he's an incredibly smooth skater. More than that, Letang combines agility with puckhandling skill. Lots of guys like Hagelin can fly down the ice, but fewer can fly down the ice while carrying a puck.

And yeah, I forgot about Koltsov. He could skate like the wind but he makes Grabner look like Denis Savard with the puck.
