Take some balls for Daugavins to try this and it almost worked...but Rask is just an awesome goalie. Let's thank Toronto again for being such an idiot franchise.

I live in Toronto and can't stand them and their fans but listening to that Edwads clown and watching that team play makes me throw up in my mouth. Boston is the #1 hated team for sure

True - but once the goalie realizes he's going for the spinorama/wraparound, it's all about who'll be quickest, and you could see that Daugavins wasn't able to do at it any faster for fear of losing the puck altogether.

Plus there's no other option for the skater: can't shoot, flip or deke

Thornton AND Marchand. Possibly at Daugavins' attempt. They can't help it even when they win.

I guess this is an opportune place to ask, but what determines who goes in a shootout? Why isn't it purely based on statistics? Especially with the Habs, it always seems different players are chosen and I can't understand why.

Like I said up there; they're just a bunch of monkeys. That whole city has something that can't be helped with. You can't reason animals.

Bruins OT win would have been the worst one. At least the Bruins don't get a ROW out of this one.

CGY already down 2-0.

Generally, coaches go with the best players on the ice that night, or if no one has been too much better than anyone else, the guys who are the best shooters. Tonight, Alfredsson went 3rd for the Sens, but he's 0/4 on the shootout this year. He is still their best player and scorer (injured Karlsson/Spezza notwithstanding), so he gets the nod.

Small comfort, lol.

Man, I bet Ottawa is going to play the Habs like they did last time with their goaltender going into Vezina mode.

That's the only positive I could think of this too. 3-point game with two division rivals, and Boston winning one of their 4 games in hand. Freaking pisses me off, we can't catch a break with them. We need more head to head games because we can beat these guys, and no one else can, somehow. More games against Buffalo or something. lol

Career stats in the SO tend to matter too, which is why I believe we've seen Gionta so many times this season, his career % is decent.

Another thing usually looked at is how the goalie you are facing has been beaten in other shootouts and which players on your team are good at doing what beat that goalie in the past.

Is Tomas Sandstrom on Antichambre in the corner, cuz Roy keeps winking at something.

Bruins players are going to whine about that shootout attempt. Book it.

Ian Mendes @ian_mendes

David Krejci on the Daugavins shootout attempt: "I wouldn't like it if someone on my team tried that move."

My favorite comment (taken from the main board):
