I'll be pretty disgusted if Snow doesn't get Streit signed. Newsday reports he wants to stay and is asking for 3 yrs/$10m.
Some NYI fans don't want to give him 3 yrs, they feel his play has dropped off. But, he's playing injured, playing on a leg that needs rest to heal.
I would easily give him a three year 12M deal. He is playing much better the last few games. Wish we could sign Vis and Streit. Having Lubo benefits Streit.
I would trade Lubo for a first cause of age and the odds he wont be back
Fistric is 100% staying in Edmonton because he literally asked for a trade here. His family is here. Edmonton will resign him in a heartbeat because he brings a lot that we don't have.
And I seriously doubt Smid leaves. If anything, he gets his payday with the Oilers and they shop Nick Schultz. With Fistric, Peckham, Smid and occasionally Petry we have to many D that won't jump into the play.
I see the Oilers shopping Schultz and going after Streit. Krueger will most certainly want him, and the Oil have already tried to trade for him.
Smid will get five million a year from someone if he hits the market.
I think so too, but he doesn't really deserve it he is pretty much purely a defensive d-man with minimal offensive attributes. Even the really high end defensive d-men you typically want to keep them below the $4.5 million mark, he's such a heart and soul guy will do anything for the team, he blocks an ungodly number of shots really don't want to lose him.
As an Oiler fan I'd like to lock him for 4 years.
at $3.5 million is a sweetheart deal.
at $3.75 million is good deal for both sides
at $4 million getting pricey but he fills a glaring hole
at $4.25 million+ I'd tell him to walk
Other than Smid and maybe Streit, there are a lot of borderline top 4 offensive guys and bottom pairings here.
Thing is though, it could improve with amnesty buyouts. There is also a deep RFA pool, which could lead to trades or maybe an offer sheet or two. Wonder if maybe the Blackhawks get hit again with Nick Leddy this time, or if someone offer sheets the NHL (OEL is an RFA)
If you think it's bad not wait until June 1st rolls around.
Unless their agents are pushing them hard to test the market, the vast majority of decent guys under 35y/o will be locked up before the end of the playoffs. Guys like Smid, Fistric, and even Hainsey are long shots to make it to UFA.
Leafs need a defensive dman and I know Regehr used to be that guy but I admit I haven't seen enough to know how effective he's been in recent years. Also, I think he and Phaneuf don't get along from their days together in Alberta.
He makes 3.0 this year, but yes, his cap hit is 4.5.
He seems to be able to put up some decent offensive numbers, and he's a big guy -- but is he worth it?
If not, and I know this is asking for trouble, how much do you guys think he's worth? The more I think about it, the more I see him fitting in Detroit; I mean, a bunch of our posters have already said that around our board, but I'd never really given it much consideration. Slow on the uptake, I guess.
Flyers fans say he's been awful. If thats true they might want to replace him
Umm...false. He hasn't been great, but few on our team have. His contract is perfectly fine. There is a 0% chance he is bought out. And who the heck would we replace him with? The point of this thread is that there are few talented defenseman available as UFA this year.
Oilers are going to have to give him atleast 5 x 5 you would think.
Signing Smid to a 5 year, 25 million dollar deal would more than likely end up looking terrible by the end of the first year.
I'm not going to say the Oilers have the foresight to stop themselves from doing something like this, I'm just saying anyone who pays Smid that much is setting themselves up for some serious disappointment.
Smid at 5 years 20 million is within the ballpark I'd like to see him resign with the Oil. 6 years 26-28 million is my guess for what he ends up signed for. Followed closely by regret and sadness for whatever team does that.
