Do schools still play that in Elementary?

A goalie would have to be asleep and/or brain dead not to figure out how to deal with this attempt.
It very nearly fooled Rask,. He almost pulled a groin getting to that post.

It's a gimmick move that would only work once but it had a better chance than most shootout attempts.

Going forward everyone has seen it (I doubt most NHL goalies saw the AHL highlight) so it has almost no chance of working.

It really depends. If Omark does it, it's the worst move in history. If St. Louis does it, it's teh best thing since sliced bread.

I'm sure Don Cherry's going to have a few words about it.

Read his twitter and he didn't seem to have a big problem with it.

Like Replacement said unless you are an idiot that swhould be an easy stop for the goalie let's take a look using physics.

Stick on top of puck with downward force to the ground.

% chance of puck moving upwards off the ice: 0

What do you do as a goalie? Take away the bottom? I dunno this is where is get tough.

Not sure who the goalie is... #35 on Hamilton back in 2010... Maybe Auld?

Robert Mayer.

(He switched to #29 last season, if anyone is wondering why he's wearing that in the link.)

Mason Raymond's shootout goal shouldn't have counted.

That goal would not be allowed as per NHL regulation. Forward progress of the puck had stopped, in fact the puck went backwards on the spin.

I guess he revised it for the NHL making it even a worse attempt.

The moment I saw him with his stick at Center Ice I knew what he was up to. I'd never seen this before, I knew exactly that he was going to try some lame ass floor hockey move. Except with a puck you can't raise with the blade on top of puck. All the goalie has to do is have bottom of net covered. The goalie would have enough time to lay down on the ice across the goal being how telegraphed this play was.

Detroit to start Gustavsson in goal tonight; Jimmy Howard not feeling well in Calgary

Starting to think the Flames poison all opposing starting goaltenders.

Yeah that's what I thought, doesn't the puck have to go forward?

Seriously. Even when we were the absolute bottom of the barrel we didn't see as many backups as the Flames are.

I think they changed it to be that the player has to be going forward. I think they changed it after that Malik goal from forever ago after it was pointed out that it shouldn't have counted under the rules at the time.

Edit: Just watched the highlight. He stopped moving forward and may even have moved back. That probably shouldn't have counted.

I'm all for creativity in the shootout, but it's idiotic that Raymond's attempt counted.

The official league rule says "continuous motion", and the refs said that's how they saw it. Even if it's continuous motion and not forward motion, seemed like he stopped his motion altogether.

It's a true testament to their ineptitude. If they finish below us this year despite seeing backup goalies 60% of the time and getting teams coming out of Vancouver or Edmonton the night before they should be ashamed.

Interesting that the Wings are playing in Calgary first but the Oilers won be getting them on the second night of a back to back.

He's got 6 points in 11 games with the Hurricanes, so some are giving the gears to the Oilers for trading him.

Even though he wasn't going to sign with us and we got a pretty good return for him.

I kind of hope he does well actually, give a little bit of credibility to the scouts that thought so highly of him they traded up to get him.

Blake Geoffrion retires from pro hockey.

It's pretty sad that he didn't get to play more games with the big club; he's still so young.

We fired that scout, so it doesn't really matter.

Frankly i don't care about Nash. At best he'll be a 2nd line C. At worst he'll wash out.

Hopefully Marincin can become a useful player for us.
