What's even more interesting is that Mayer will replace Reto Berra who wants to head to North America. He could be the next Jonas Hiller, talented big goalie.
I'm pretty sure Mayer was recalled at some point last season too. Has yet to play an NHL game though.

Yeah! He sat on the bench for the 3 or 4 games of the season.

It's sad that he didn't got to play one game in the NHL, because he worked hard during the 5 years he spent in North America. At least, he won a Kelly Cup and was named MVP of the ECHL playoffs.

----------
By the way, former NHL enforcer D.J. King signed with the Ontario Reign, a ECHL team.

Andrew Brunette (CHI) and Mathieu Darche (MTL) can both be added to the "Retired" list, just wanted to point that out.

Excited to see what Roloson can do in aiding in the development of both Gibson and Fasth. Man, Anaheim sure is stacked in the goalie department.

Rights of Berra are owned by St. Louis Blues

I'd love to get Berra over here. He's got skill. Would take him over Eloliott at this point.

Berra is an UFA. Blues don't own his rights anymore.

Washington has signed Steven Oleksy to a contract and recalled him from the AHL. Oleksy, 27, has appeared in 54 games with Hershey of the AHL. He was never drafted.

NHL.com still lists him as a member of StL

Mathias Joggi, a forward turned defender this season with Davos of the Swiss League, stated in an interview yesterday that he will be in camp for an NHL team come September and that he has no problems with playing the entire year in the AHL which indicates it's a contract offer and not just a try-out. Joggi, 27, is a 6'2", 223 lb defender who put up 2 goals and 8 points in 44 games with Davos along with 22 PIM. I've not seen him before and would be curious of anyone who has a scouting report.

I guess I should publish the list of Group II (restricted) free agents that have or will turn 27 years old by July 1, 2013, and will become Group III (unrestricted) free agents unless they sign before then.

The year is when they became Group II free agents and the team that owns their rights.

Stephen Dixon (2008) - Anaheim
Dennis Endras (2012) - Minnesota
Brett Festerling (2012) - Winnipeg
Johan Harju (2011) - Tampa Bay
Shaun Heshka (2010) - Phoenix
Martins Karsums (2010) - Tampa Bay
Geoff Kinrade (2011) - Ottawa
Linus Klasen (2011) - Nashville
Kyle Klubertanz (2011) - Montreal
Daniel Larsson (2010) - Detroit
Martin Lojek (2008) - Florida
Dennis McCauley (2011) - Buffalo
Alexander Nikulin (2009) - Phoenix
Nathan Perkovich (2011) - New Jersey
Goeff Platt (2008) - Anaheim
Liam Reddox (2011) - Edmonton
Sergei Shirokov (2011) - Florida (tendered contract by Vancover, then traded)
Paul Szczechura (2012) - Buffalo
Mike Wall (2008) - Colorado
Roman Wick (2011) - Ottawa
Petteri Wirtanen (2009) - Anaheim

There may have been a few that have already been released (Shaun Heshka was a restricted free agent with Phoenix in 2010 but was released by the L.A. Kings during training camp 2011 and Dennis McCauley played for Reading in the ECHL last year)

Ooo, thanks for this! I'm updating my RFA/UFA lists and this will come in handy.

A couple quick notes/observations
Quote:
Geoff Kinrade (2011) - Ottawa
Just re-signed for another year with his Swiss team, so he's unlikely to be coming back to the NHL.

Quote:
Sergei Shirojov (2011) - Vancouver
Believe his rights are held by Florida as he was traded there.

Quote:
Maike Wall (2008) - Colorado
Is almost certainly retired. Apparently he was offered a contract by Colorado in 2008 but turned it down. According to his Wikipedia page, he was playing goal for a local Senior league.

Signed for two years actually so he's not coming back.

If this can help you, capgeek tweeted this yesterday :

@capgeek
Following is a list of #NHL players who are on Group 6 UFA watch, with games played required to achieve RFA status : Dustin Jeffrey (1), Tom Sestito (41), Leland Irving (16), Ben Bishop (2), Richard Bachman (8), Jan Mursak (34), Frazer McLaren (22), Danny Taylor (26), Jussi Rynnas (26), Blake Geoffrion (13).

@capgeek
Kaspars Daugavins will be an RFA this summer instead of a Group 6 UFA after playing in his 80th career game earlier this month. #Sens #NHL

Wonder if anyone has an idea about Matt Bartkowski possibly becoming Group 6 UFA after this season? He will be 25 before July 1st & no chance of hitting the 80 games minimum this season. Is there some sort of rule blocking this because of the lockout?
I know it's not all that pertinent, but maybe the Bruins would want him to compete for 7th D next season & was curious if he could hit UFA this summer.

Wouldn't Leland Irving be a Group 6 (UFA) free agent?

1. Age of 25 years or older? Yes, he turns 25 on Thursday.

2. Three or more pro seasons? Yes, 2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12, and 2012-13.

3. Has played less than 28 NHL games? Yes, he has played in 13 NHL games so far and Calgary has 11 more regular season games scheduled for a total of 24 potential games if called up now. It would be a real stretch to have Calgary get in the playoffs and with him as the number 1 goalie to get him over 28 NHL games.

Danny Taylor turns 27 years old on April 28, he'll be a Group III (UFA) on July 1.
