Wow... Burns is much more valuable on D than as a forward.

I'd agree. He has also had the play in front of him for the last 10 years. Now he will be required to lead it, which will be a big change. I'm curious how this turns out, but I don't see it sticking.

It's just a conditioning stint, their coach said he's skating as a forward because he's not there yet in terms of fitness and practicing as a forward takes a smaller toll on your body than when you're playing D.

But the thing what makes this interesting is the fact that he was drafted as a forward and was one until Lemaire converted him to D.

Burns is definitely their best defender with Boyle starting to slow down. I'm guessing with the severe lack of depth at forward (and no one worthwhile in the system to call up) they went with a guy who has extensive experience at forward to help their scoring.

I can't freakin' believe a team that sports Thornton, Marleau, Couture, Clowe, Havlat (albeit injured, but he sucked even before he went down), and Pavelski is currently the 2nd worst offense in the league. It sure looks like the coaches and management are completely out of ideas as well.

Vlasic is their best d-man.

Small sample size, but Boyle was an absolute beast against the Avs last game. Definitely was their best defender in that game.

Defensively, sure. But all-around?

Ask any Sharks fan who's been their best and most consistent defensemen over the last couple of years and I bet the vast majority will say Vlasic. Burns spend a lot of time on the IR and Vlasic and Boyle are like a positive/negative, one is a terrific defensive defenseman with subpar offensive game, the other is a great offensively and suspect defensively. When Vlasic and Burns were paired together Vlasic showed some offensive skills since having Burns as his partner allowed him to take risks knowing there's someone to back him up if he turns the puck over, when he's playing with Boyle he's forced to sit back and clean up Boyle's mess, which in turn means his offensive game suffers mightily.

A little further than out of town, but Erik Karlsson won the points league for d-men in the Finnish Hockey League despite only playing in half of all the games (30 games aout of 60).
Impressive.

Fair enough...it's easy to forget Vlasic back there since he's not a real flashy guy.

Just strange watching SJ and VAN unravel like this. I think the Canucks will rebound from their recent slide though. Not so sure the Sharks will though.

Most of the time when players are randomly out it's because of flu.

Checked the Jets board... healthy scratch. Apparently he has played pretty bad lately and is giving up the puck like crazy.

There were a couple of games this year where he was benched for the 3rd period so it might be an actual healthy scratch.

He got ****ed out, amazing hit.

Clean hit except he didn't have the puck, so definitely an interference call.

Mueller is a briliant coach, but it wasn't Hal Gill who slowed down Ovi, it was Jaro Spacek.

You gotta be kidding me. Clean hit!? The puck was nowhere near him, Perry left his feet to deliver it, and clearly targeted the head. Clean hit!? Unreal.

In other news, the Wylde signed our old friend Brett Clark. Pending a physical. Geez...that Suter signing just isn't working out at all at the moment.
