Girardi to the Leafs?

Pierre LeBrun was saying Nonis is looking to trade for a top 4 RHD to a team that's looking for depth.

Now, I know if I were to ask you this last year it would have been an easy no, but has Girardi taken a step back? Would you be willing to trade him?

I saw some Rangers fans were saying they need a big shot for the PP so I thought Cody Franson would be perfect.

This season, Franson has been unbelievable offensively, and very solid on D. He's playing very sheltered and easy minutes, but is still impressive. His biggest knock was that he wasn't very physical before but now he's been lining people up along the boards a lot. If Franson isn't what you want, would you be interested in Gunnarsson? Very solid 2-way D, a little soft though. Probably a better D than Franson overall, but Franson is probably the ideal bottom pairing sheltered minutes PP D.

I think the biggest problem with the Rangers this year is depth, or lack thereof. Leafs have an abundance of forwards depending on what you're looking for...Is MacArthur the type of player you would want (pending UFA, back checks hard, can be physical, good along the boards and can score). I'd say MacArthur is the ideal 3rd line winger for you guys, he also can play both LW or RW. We also have Matt Frattin who is a scoring machine and relatively young. He's extremely strong and can hit like an animal, but doesn't have the same experience or all around game as MacArthur.

I think the Leafs would also be willing to move Grabovski, but his cap hit may be a tad high for you guys.

So would something like Franson/Gunnarsson+MacArthur/Frattin + something else of value for Girardi be something the Rangers would consider?

This is the kind of crap deal our fans are always proposing to other teams, its kind of refreshing to see them come over here and propose the quantity for quality charade.

No. It's not even close to his value.

Guys, let's not start a flame war. I thin I speak for everyone in saying that is not close. Let's end it here!

Rangers are looking for a right handed defensemen to ADD to Girardi. Its a pretty easy no.

LOL Franson and MacArthur for Girardi +???

You'd be lucky to have us even consider that a good deal if it was only Girardi going the other way.

Lol, Typical Leafs proposal.

A 4/5 defenseman + a 3rd line player isn't getting you a beastly #2 defenseman.

Counter:

Stu Bickel + Brian Boyle for Nazem Kadri.

This is fun.

Looking at Sather's trades. Add Christian Backman who had a year remaining. The Rangers swapped him in the Tyutin trade a few months later. Three times Sather has added term in a trade. 3rd round pick for Bozo in 2006. 4th round pick for Backman in 2008. Nash trade.

Prust, although I guess he was picked up prior to the deadline.

While I put Girardi + Stepan in deals, you notice it is usually only for top players. And if premium player not coming back, then overpay in very good players + assets required.

The short answer is no thank you, but as a courtesy to your OP, the only way that would be considered, IMO, is if

1. The centerpiece was Jake Gardiner
2. You either offer me insurance if Gardiner does not show full recovery soon from concussions, or offer me acceptable compensation additionally for taking the risk.
3. Would consider something like
Girardi + negligible
for
Gardiner, Franson, +

And while I have an open mind, the answer still is no at this point, IMO.

Hagelin has some leverage via arbitration rights. Also, he's on a 24G/28A 82 game pace. 50 points is nothing to sneeze at these days. Left Wings to score in the 50's point range last year? Landeskog, Heatley, Marchand, Ladd, Kane, Hall, Prospal, etc...

3.5 might be aiming high, but a 3 yr/10M deal wouldn't surprise me in the least.

I got this from Spector's hockey.

I'm not really into Morrow on the team. If that's what indeed they are looking at.

Quite frankly, I'm surprised Sather didn't go w/my suggestion:

Stepan + Dubinsky + Redden (cap dump) for Nash

We would still have AA, our first, and Erixon as depth trade chip, + we'd have our first amnesty b/o (useful in case, Nash, say, gets injured too much to dominate but not enough for LTIR).

If I'm Columbus, I don't make that deal.

Basically you're saying Stepan is worth Anisimov, Erixon, a 1st round pick and 5.6 million dollars. How does that make sense?

Because Howson values his life?
Getting Redden back for Nash would have had mobs with pitchforks at his door.

What sense would it make to have Columbus take on Redden? Surely his salary has less impact on the Rangers than the Blue Jackets.

So Bernmeister still thinks that AA is better than Stepan.

You're "surprised" Sather didn't go with your suggestion? Did you speak with him on the phone or something?

I'd rather try and steal Brenden Dillion from them - Bob Gainey is currently employed by the Stars.

I wouldn't mind Morrow if the price is right. Outside of him there's nothing realistically available in Dallas that would interest me, outside of Jagr, but I doubt that happens.

2.5 is fantasy. Hags and Steps are basically on pace for 60 point seasons if you prorate it to 82. 2.5 won't get it done, you'll see.
Agree.
Overall, in short term, compliance buyout allows Richards $$ to be redirected towards our UFAs. But we need to do still more.

And so what I said over a year ago, about thinking to move players like Girardi for a premium, or other moves, even if you moved a Stepan as an inducement, is coming to pass; these are they types of moves that need to eventually be considered, or we have to suffer the consequences.

hahhaha i love it, perfect reaction... AA isn't even in the same league as stepan, come on guy.. he may have better skill, but IQ is what sets apart the good players from average.. 10/10 times stepan over aa.. maybe goal celly's aa has him beat..
