Does anybody have a list of trades at the trade deadline that Tambo has done over the last few years?
I would like to see how many of them actually helped or hurt the team.
I don't see the Gilbert/Shultz deal as bad as everyone else just because we had a emerging Petry who looked at the time to be making Gilbert redundant.. We didn't have enough platers like Shultz on the team.
The Penner deal has yet to pan out yet...Tuebert seems like a bust but Klefbom seems like a gem.
Visnosky for Whitney I am undecided on, who knows what Lubo would of done if he stayed here, he may of took off to Russia or something, despite the injuries and the first half of this season, Whitney was our best dman by a mile. Now he obviously isn't but I doubt the Oilers would still have Lubo right now if they hung on to him..

Staios for Johnson and 3rd
Cole for Kotalik and O'Sullivan
Grebeshkov for a 2nd came a little before the deadline I believe.
The thing is if he doesn't do anything to try and balance the team out he'll be with Pat Quinn in make believe land.
It's not just Hemsky though IMO. We have very few assets that teams would want that we'd be willing to give up. At some point someone is going to be dealt and some Oiler fans won't like it. Just like that 4th rounder that many didn't want to see dealt.
Wasn't Pat Quinn the guy who put JFJ on the top line because of "balance"? Trading Hemsky for a lesser player just because he has size would be a similar type of move, no?
There are very few (if any) good reasons to trade away a player for another who isn't nearly as good.

Grebeshkov for a 2nd came a little before the deadline I believe.
I remember we played Nashville that night and Grebeshkov just grabbed his equipment and brought it into the visitors dressing room. Pretty sure he scored on us that night too
Signed a horrific deal with the Rangers, traded to Calgary for Jokinen and Prust, and then traded back to Buffalo. Think he was bought out or something.
I'd say anyone talking about trading any one of the big 5 is jumping the gun by years.

Eberle or Yakupov for a legit #2 Dman is a trade that needs to happen.

-captain clutch. Dependable in offensive situations
-plays similar (puck movement) style as RNH
-best player so far, but his playing style is easiest to replace.
- RW depth on oilers is strong, making replacement easier.
-no real major flaws, but defensive game is poor, but will likely improve as development continues.
-trade for #1 D or top line forward.
sounds like you are willing to trade the latter two, so are they untouchable or not?
Also i very much doubt you can get an actual #1D for either, #2D is far value IMO. top pairi Dman vs first line forward (cant really call either more than that)

Moving Yakupov or Eberle for a #2 d-man would be a monumentally bad trade. Not even Tambolowe is dumb enough to contemplate it.
The Big 4 are untouchable because they are much more valuable to a rebuilding team like the Oilers than they are to any other team in the league.

That's exactly what I mean. If your reason for sloughing one of them off for a d-man is because they're "all" going to demand trades in a few years, you need to re-think your plan.

For whatever reason they neglected to include Nik Khabibulin but they mention him in the blog. Besides him the list looks pretty complete to me.
Not trying to defend Tambo, but to be fair, since the rebuild began, he's probably had his hands tied in terms of making a big trade. His mandate has been to build through the draft, not by bringing in meaningful players by way of trading young assets.

None of them are untouchable, given the right offer any of them can be dealt, but if I were to put them on a trading block, it would be Eberle, simply because his replacability.
And if we were to trade him, I would fully expect the oilers to potentially package him up for a #1 D. We won't be able to get a #1 D in a one on one deal but in a package, it's more likely. Also trading one of the big 4 for less then a #1 or elite #2 defenseman is a big waste of assets. If we wanted a #2 or less defenseman, we would trade Hemsky etc first.
