In all honesty, I think he would do well not on the Flyers. And being in the same division doesn't help us .

I'll tell you who this clown is. In 2007 we drafted a defenseman named Kevin Marshall (shown in 24/7 last year jamming out to Knock Knock after a win); 2 picks before P.K. Subban. We traded Kevin Marshall to Washington last season for this clown - Matt Ford. Completely useless drafting and trading by Mr. Holmgren.

Many college hockey teams will end their season this weekend, probably including UNO (Sustr). To get the highly coveted guys like Sustr, they will more than likely have to give him NHL this year. Could be clearing space ahead of time.

Lightning signed JT Brown last year (I wanted the Flyers to sign him) and he played at least a game late in the season.

No they can play this year. Most guys get tryout contracts for the AHL so they don't burn a year on the contract for the end of the season. If they play in the NHL it burns a year off their contract.

got it, thanks.

burning a year of their elc this season might be a good way to attract some players that are considering multiple teams.

Until then, here is our list of U.S. College players likely to sign in the weeks to come, according to three NHL scouts we conferred with.

Beat me too it. J.T. Brown played five. I guess there's a max amount of games a recently signed undrafted college player, like junior players, before they burn a year off there ELC.

If Sustr wanted to play in the NHL this year I'd sign him, see what we got, if he's decent enough to hold down a spot trade one of Coburn/Mez for a kings ransom at the deadline (as well as Foster, if we can get anything for him even a 7th is fine). At least it gets one of Homer patented mini-rebuilds underway.

Oh god, this better not mean Homer is about to pull off a bone headed trade involving our draft picks.

Comments from the beat writer at the Saratogian:

This is a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately business. Also, gives some Philadelphia some extra room within the NHL's 50-contract limit.

Ford is one of just eight players with 25 AHL goals in each of the past two seasons, but just 4-9-13 in 35 games this year.

It's still a little surprising the Phantoms didn't get anyone back for Matt Ford, who never really seemed to gel with Terry Murray's system.

Speculation running rampant on twitter we might be up to something. I believe this could just be as simple as clearing room for free agent college players or trading a guy who struggled in Murrays system.

I just hope it isn't a bad trade, if a trade is coming. Jettisoning that $6.5M cap hit would be really nice.

There's no other ways to cut it. Either a trade is coming or they have their eyes on college ufa. We should know soon.

I remember after he was drafted he was being compared to Scott Stevens. At the same time MA Bourdon was supposed to be a high scoring defenseman. Sigh.

Think it's most likely that they're going after one of the college guys. Simply don't see Homer, at this stage, trading a pick away for someone.

So they dropped a career AHLer who had no future with the organization anyway to gain another roster spot?

They have 48 contracts sticking which means they could potentially sign 2 college players/FAs immediately. Not too bad.

What sucks is that K. Marshall has now officially turned from a highly touted 2nd rounder into non-existent "future considerations". Maybe it equals a little consolation from Homer in hindsight of the horrendous outcome of the Jeff Carter trade to Columbus but Matt Ford is really a non factor.

I think future considerations means that Holmgren and Columbus GM had an agreement on what the considerations will be, they can be conditional on Ford doing something, which won't ever happen, etc. Not sure about this. Does anyone know?

You think that is bad, how about the 30 teams that passed on him in the first round! Talk about a waste of a pick!
