Who would you be getting (roughly what calibre) as the pick for Granderson? I probably wouldn't do that.
With a broken hand I dont think I can get much for Granderson now, I could try and get a late draft pick for him. Im thinking I have to just hang onto Upton and try and grab Grando in a later round. Machado is pretty tempting to keep over Alvarez. Nobody is biting on any trades in our league which always sucks.

Great minds think alike! Another factor is whether you're doing the auction with strangers or friends. I feel like my AL Only league cohorts know all of our tendencies by now.

And that includes the "Guy who leaves his money on the table." Last year, Alex Rios was the last proven OF available and I had $15 left. The other guy had at least $20. I (as well as everybody else who had no money left) were stunned when he let me have Rios for $8. At least one other agitated person alluded to the fact that he could at least bid me up a few more bucks. The other guy ended up with Nolan Reimold for $1.

I suppose the 'end game' is another thing to watch for. Aside from the guys who'll spend too much at the beginning, there might be the guy that saves too much and has $20 at the end with nobody worthwhile to buy / nobody else to bid against.

If there are at least 10-12 teams, I usually find that inexperienced auction draftees spend a lot of money at the beginning of the draft and then have to wait until the end to fill up their teams after depleting their cap. I usually let other teams waste their money up front and pick up a bunch of solid players in the middle at a discount. But that strategy won't work as well if it's a shallow league (ie, 8 team mixed league).

One strategy that seems not to be utilized enough is nominating a player that you have zero interest when it's your turn to pick. Given the general volatility of closers, I usually toss them out early on and let others pay full value (and then some) to get a name brand guy like Mariano, Papelbon, etc. Similarly, I can usually find somebody who'll pay full price for Joe Mauer while picking up a reasonable hitting catcher for $1 at the end.

And if you're playing with friends, it's fun to make them pay a homer tax for their favorite players.

Also don't go crazy early. Many people overspend early and then you get guys for way below value. I mean unless its a stud you really want (Kershaw, Stras, Trout..). But I wouldn't go crazy. After a few rounds you'll see how prices dip.

I also typically don't nominate players I want. I try to nominate the guy who will likely go for the most out of guys I don't want. Reason being, force others to spend money. But don't bid on guys you don't want just to drive the price up. I was an idiot my first auction draft and did that and ended up with some guys I didn't want.

Auction drafts are a lot of fun.

Thanks for all the responses guys.

I can keep zero, or up to 5..

Trout
Votto
Tulo
Kinsler
Kershaw
MadBum
Dickey
Darvish
Halladay
Sale

If I keep all 5 I start my draft in the 6th round, keep 4 it's the 5th ect...

I'm pretty sure I know who I'm keeping, just curious on some other input.

Also, 'Power Troutage' or 'U Bout it Trout it?' for team name?

ha

What can I expect from Brett Gardner this season? Guy from my league loves him and he's desperately trying to trade for him, but he's my only player that will really get me SB.

My team looks like this:

C: Molina
1B: Ortiz
2B: Pedrioia
3B: A. Ramirez
SS: Tulo
OF: Gardner
OF: Willingham
OF: Harper
UTI: Berkman

BN: Tex
BN: David Murphy
BN: Werth
BN: Moustakas

Right now he offered Pence and a 7th rounder for Gardner and a 4th. Idk, need some help on Gardner's value.

I'm in a similar dilemma with Gardner. Ended up keeping him for $13 in an 8 team AL Only league which feels underwhelming. Seems like the Yankees will either have him bat leadoff or 9th (and use Ichiro/Jeter 1-2). Not sure if the difference in spots will affect how many SBs opportunities he'll get.

Are you in a week-to-week league or roto? If it's week-to-week, you can maybe afford to ignore SBs (especially if you have no other SB threats; you might lose SBs even with Gardner) and load up in the other categories.

How many teams are in your league? Since it's mixed league, you can probably find steals as the season goes on.

Depending on the draft you can actually get him a bit lower. I managed to snag Grandy at the end of the 4th round.

How'd I do in my first year keeper league draft, 12 team league.

C: Perez
1B: Pujols
2B: Espinosa
3B: Sandoval
SS: Castro
OF: Harper
OF: Jennings
OF: Melky
Util: Reddick
Util: Machado

B: Fowler
B: Young
B: Cozart
B: Infante

SP: Gio
SP: Cueto
SP: J. Johnson
RP: Romo
RP: Janssen
P: Santos
P: Frieri

B: Hellickson
B: Anibal Sanchez
B: Straily

Not sure what to target in a trade.. My top 3 picks went Harper, Pujols, Castro.. Felt that I kind of stole Castro.. Thoughts?

Anyone have a league starting up? Looking to get a 2nd team. I usually play Yahoo, live draft, basic stats. I don't ditch teams either.

I have the opportunity to pick up Willin Rosario. I already have Victor Martinez as my catcher. I wouldn't mind having two catchers. I would drop David Hernandez for him. My bullpen is pretty good with Rodney, Soriano and Romo. I can always pick up a holds guy in the future.

Any suggestions?

Depends how your team is built. If you need more power, Rosario would be a great addition as he is one of the only catchers with 20-30 HR power.

Just pulled the trigger on this deal in my keeper league.

I trade: Danny Espinosa, Michael Young, and Anibal Sanchez for Ian Kinsler and Mike Minor

How'd I do?

Not bad for power. Idk it's up to you! If you want a back up catcher, he would probably be your best option.

I guess if I post enough on this board I'll eventually get some feedback...

Since you gave me your feedback I will give you mine. I really like this trade. Minor and Sanchez are equal, slight edge to Sanchez. Basically it works out Young and Espinosa for Kinsler. Young is over the hill.
