I'm not going to call Lindback a good goalie because I really haven't watched him play. However, pointing out he had bad numbers in Tampa doesn't prove anything. Mike Smith had bad numbers in Tampa and almost had a Vezina nomination last season in Phoenix. Bryzgalov is another guy who put a good numbers on defensive teams and is now struggling in a offensive first system. I don't care how good a goalie is, you will be exposed when you play on a team that doesn't think defense is a priority. Jason ****ing Labarbera has put up decent numbers in Phoenix and we all know he sucks. It is all relative to the team playing in front of them.

That goal that Ryan had in the playoffs vs Nashville two years ago was absolutely filthy.
No offense, but I don't think anyone would agree with one letter typed in your post. That is unless you are confusing Ryan and Perry.

I agree with some of it. Perry is an offensively-gifted agitator, but he's ugly and chirps like a little girl. Ryan has had 4 straight 30+ goal seasons, used to be a Junior King, and is very close to Perry skill-wise, and would be a bit cheaper salary-wise. I would take B. Ryan over Fairy any day.

Sportsnet intermission with Nick Kypreos and Don MacLean just talked about Bernier and when he will be dealt, and they discussed that they don't have confidence in their #3 to step in, and that the market for goalies isn't great, so we may be looking at him being moved in the off-season.

Some of the possibilities that they listed included Florida, New Jersey, Calgary.

Ladislav Smid's name was mentioned. Now that's one guy I wouldn't mind us grabbing. They need a goalie. Bernie for Smid and a pick?

Smid is a UFA after this season. I wouldn't pay that much for him unless the pick was a high one. Like Smid though.

Hard to imagine how awful the Oilers would look without Smid.

Their defense is a disaster.

Does he even know where LA is. If he has sources, please take notice of the IF, they are going to be in the east where he is at. And I'm sure there is plenty of talk with LA about what they will take for Bernier. But that by no means we are seeking stuff from him. We're being begged to trade him.

Florida doesn't make any sense, as they have Markstrom. The other two are the two most logical destinations, Calgary during the season and Calgary/New Jersey in the off-season.

They're doing a good job of ruining Markstrom.

Mehh, I don't know if I agree on that. They may be doing him a favor by not throwing him behind that slice of Swiss cheese they call a defense this year. I expect he'll be on the NHL roster permanently by the trade deadline anyways, and he's putting up good numbers in the AHL and during his time on the Panthers. Let's not forget he's only played 102 AHL games. Bernier had 112.

My favorite statistic for evaluating goal scorers is their even strength production, and Bobby is consistently near the top of the leauge in this stat. He's one of the best wingers in the game at producing 5 on 5.

Plus I think he grew up a Kings fan.
I agree with what you said about the 5 on 5 production. So many guys pad their stats with power play points, but a majority of Ryan's goals over the last few years have come at even strength - which is very impressive.

I've never understood the trade chatter surrounding Bobby Ryan. He is one of the best young power forwards in the game.

Apparently johnjm22 does. See post above where he says "I agree."

I think Perry is a great player and I'd take him on my team any day, but I think Ryan has more offensive skill than Perry and is a more natural goal scorer who can create more easily for himself. Perry, statistically, has benefited greatly from playing with Getzlaf non-stop the past few years. Getzlaf is a tremendous facilitator. Take Getzlaf away from Perry, and how much can Perry truly create on his own?

Ryan has played with them but has also been bounced around the last few years and has often played on the 2nd line. Ryan is also one of the best even strength goal scorers in the game, which I (like johnjm22) value a lot, and clearly possesses better one on one hockey skills than Perry IMO. Ryan is also just as, if not more, physical than Perry. He has thrown more hits than Perry every year over the last 4 years. Perhaps you remember the one on Oscar Moller where he absolutely laid the wood on him?

I don't assume just because Perry won the Hart trophy and has put up good stats that he should automatically be deemed the better player. I love Perry's game the way he can agitate/score/hit, I just like Bobby Ryan's more and would rather have him on the Kings.

I would be interested if his deal expired at the end of this season, but it doesn't. I've always liked Montador and think he'd be a solid bottom pairing addition, but 2.75 million is too much for a guy that could very well end up being the 7th/8th defenseman on the team next year. If Scuderi is re-signed and everyone comes back healthy next year, Montador would have a very tough time cracking the top 6 IMO.

Your preference is one thing, but for him to say Ryan is a tougher, better goal scorer than Perry is silly. Perry is the NHL's elite goal scorer and the best power forward in the game. His offensive floor is 35 goals and has cracked 50 while Ryan is a 30 goal guy who plays half of the tough game perry does. One huge hit against a midget two years ago does not make Ryan a power forward.

John22 agrees that he'd prefer Ryan, which many of us would. But I have to question how much you have seen Perry. The man does not need anyone facilitating. He shined when Getzlaf was disastrous. And to use one on one skills as a reason to like Ryan better is silly because Ryan is a smaller player who plays a smaller game. Perry is a power forward.

You just cant say that a player who averages 5-7 goals per year than the next guy is the worst goal scorer (with the exception of one year where he was injured). And Perry scores just as much goals 5 on 5 as Ryan over the course of their careers.

Hits are not equal. Perry clobbers men, Ryan finishes some checks. Moller was a fluke situation. Moller is a midget, skating with his head down. Ryan was mad and humiliated. That's not his game.

Also, I'd say that Perry is the better playmaker than Ryan or at worst equal. His pass is underrated sue to his goal scoring ability but the man gets 35-50 assists every year. He just knows where everyone is on the ice.

Ryan is 6'2, 218. Perry is 6'3, 209. Very similar overall. Ryan's stockier though.

Starting in 2008-2009, which was Ryan's first season spent mostly in the NHL, he has scored 104 even strength goals. In that time, Perry has scored 100. And Ryan has played 13 fewer games in that span too, not to mention getting less 5-on-5 ice time. Perry has averaged between a low of 31 seconds more 5-on-5 ice time per game (in 2010-2011) and a high of 2:24 more 5-on-5 ice time than Ryan in over those years.

In fact, I'd approximate that Perry over the past five years (including the current season) has played 459 more minutes of even-strength ice-time over those seasons than Ryan based on the even-strength ice-time on the nhl.com website. That would equate to over 7.6 full games more than Ryan at even-strength, yet Ryan has actually outscored him at even-strength.

I'm not going to say Ryan is a better player than Perry, but those numbers sure support Ryan being a better 5-on-5 scorer.

If anyone has bothered to watch Perry in the playoffs, then they wouldn't be questioning if they'd rather have him or Bobby Ryan. Perry is better than Ryan in every way, shape, or form. That said, somebody is going to make him a very rich man, and it won't be the Kings.

So what is the asking price for Bernier? In both generic terms as well as what the Flyers have to offer. A lot of us would be happy buying out Bryz and getting your backup.

I would say until draft day the price is way higher than any team is really going to pay. Quick is starting to play like his old self but there are way too many games in such a short time for us to move him. And if they unthinkable happens of Quick going down we need Bernier since most would say Jones is NOT ready.

Simmonds?

Seriously though, I think a lot depends on how the team addresses some of the holes on the roster this off-season. They don't have many right now, but they have some expiring contracts that will need to be addressed, and we don't know if they are going to replace those contracts internally by promoting prospects to the pro roster or if they'll look at free agency or trades to fill holes.

With a healthy blueline intact and with the emergence of Jake Muzzin, I would say that the team wouldn't be looking at a defenseman in a trade involving Bernier. However, they will be in need of a backup goalie, but that doesn't necessarily have to come in a trade involving Bernier as they could always fill that hole with a free agent signing.

On offense, they will have Penner and Richardson as UFAs, so the Kings could look to add a productive winger into their lineup. I do like Matt Read and think that a pest like Zac Rinaldo could be a good fit on the Kings' bottom lines.

That would be awesome. Then we could have a player on the kings with the same name as mine.
