Is that why he became one of the highest paid players in the league? If he was as loyal as you say why wouldn't he have taken less $ to help build the supporting cast that it takes to win in a small market like Columbus? That said Columbus' biggest problem was their drafting/prospect development.

He would be in the paper and on the news every day. That seems to be what he likes....

I haven't read through the entire thread, however...

I can see Howson back in a "manage the salary cap" type of role. With the cap going down next year and the amount of kids that need to be signed over the next 3-5 years management could probably use the help.

Apparently he was quietly re-hired by Edmonton already

Old boys club here in Edmonton. If you've had a job here, good chance you'll get it back.

I'm in favour of this. The Oilers have such terrible pro scouting that having another set of eyes (and someone who's heard points of view from a different organization, maybe two if you count Davidson/STL) is a good thing.

to all the haters - relax, Katz can afford it. The cost to the organization is zero except for his salary. He can bring an insight to Columbus players as well as their professional and amateur scouting analysis.

This is a short term position but we can learn a lot from him. If you guys are that concerned about Katz's finances, go get your prescription filled at the nearest Rexall.

Not so sure about short term. Who doesn't see MacT as GM next year and Howson in MacT's VP role?

Haha wow.. It's probably not a bad move in a vacuum but the optics just look bad right now when the Oilers are struggling AGAIN with the same old guys running the show. It's not going to sink our organization and probably helps a bit to be honest but it simply doesn't look good.

Confirmed by McKenzie

Former CBJ GM Scott Howson is working the rest of this season for EDM, scouting pro ranks and U.S. colleges.

Scott Howson is a very, very sharp guy. Adding him back into the mix now with GM experience is solid. Guessing several teams inquired.

An extra set of eyes in the pro scouting ranks is never a bad thing...especially given that the track record of recent signings isn't great.

I wonder if Pocklington would be willing to buy into the team again.

Also, maybe Ron Lowe could hop behind the bench. A good second set of eyes.

The CHED spin machine is already working at full force.

Should bring back Cory Cross to run the defence.

Once an Oiler...always an Oiler.... you can work for the Oilers, get fired or attempt to go onto greener pastures, fail miserably and they will take you back and make up a job for you.

I'm surprised Prendergast isn't back with the Oilers yet.

I know you're making a joke, but I always thought Cory Cross would make a good coach. That's not to say I want him back with the team or anything.

Put him in charge of the power play, then.
