Yeah get Fuhr back as a goalie coach. Gretz and Mess as coach and associate coach with Bucky and Huddy as assistant coaches. Smith as the defensive coodinator and Selivanov as the offensive coorinator.

Then hopefully Cross will want to be the PK coordinator and hopefully Weight will be the PP cordinator and Guerin can come back as the Assistant to the Offensive game and Ulanov can come back as the Assitant to the Defensive game.

We'd have a well rounded coaching staff can never learn too much right, never enough eyes and ears in the org right?

Even if we fire Tambellini we all know he'll be back somehow. Did anyone else see on Oil Change when they showed Tom Renney at the Detroit game doing something? He wasn't just watching the game I don't even know if he's with Detroit right now but if he's not it wouldn't surprise me that he's still with the Oilers.

EDIT - Looked it up, he's with Detroit.

It's a non-move. B. Burke is doing the same thing in ANA. Who cares. He just wants to stay busy and hey what are friends for.

Maybe he can identify hard working players that the Oilers so desperately need?

The only acceptable excuse the Oilers have for adding yet ANOTHER mediocre-to-awful management team member is to ensure he's included on the ship that gets fired into the sun. Otherwise this is just yet another example of how incompetent this franchise has become.

Allow me to play devil's advocate here. When you look at Howson's tenure in Columbus, how much of it was actually his own ineptitude and how much was having his hands tied, or simply getting roasted?

To my eye, the only inexcusable acts were trading the Couturier pick and firing Hitchcock--though I recall everyone and their sister's mother in law calling for that. Apart from that, there was...

-The decision to stick with Mason for so long: Which was legitimate at least when one considers that he was a runner up for the Vezina early on. It wasn't a given that he would turn into another Carey/Raycroft, and it's difficult to cut the rope on a potential Vezina-caliber goalie.

-The Carter trade: Giving up the first was bad, bad, bad. However, he had a gun to his head and was told he had to build a winner around Nash and he was forced into action.

-The other Carter trade: He couldn't have guessed what a monumental sulky ***** Carter was going to be about having to play in Columbus, but Johnson has been a godsend for them since they traded for him and they'll get a first in a deep draft year out of it.

-The Wisniewski signing: Too much money, sure, but they had the cap room and the intention mentioned before to build a winner around Nash.

-The Nash trade: You know, everyone hated this trade at the time, but a year later it's looking like a beautiful package for a rental player. Anyone who thought they could convince Nash to stay after Rome burned last year was deluded. Anisimov looks wonderful this year, Dubinsky is their leader and number one character guy, Erixon is a great horse in a very good stable of young D, and they got ANOTHER first in a deep draft year.

He had absolutely nothing but Rick Nash and a mirage of a standout young goalie handed to him by MacLean. He shuffled things around until things could start to grow and procured some good young talent through the draft in Moore, Savard, Jenner, Dansk, Johansen, and Murray, and now one of the league's best amateur scouts will get to use the 3 picks that Howson acquired in the first round this year.

Couldn't agree more. He gets a lot of undeserved hate because of the situation he was left in. I actually like that we have him here scouting

Haha...

Anyway, what's the point of hiring pro scouts when our GM doesn't have any designs on making any trades outside of moves for bottom pairing defensemen and fourth liners?

Dear god it actually happened wtf. What the hell is wrong with this team? He may be a pro scout for now, but he just may become the GM here if Tambo ever gets fired.

As much as I hope its ONLY a scouting position until he finds a head scouting position. The timing is awful. Tambo may be on the verge of getting fired and conviently an ex gf and Oil boys club member pops up.
