They don't have many right now, but they have some expiring contracts that will need to be addressed, and we don't know if they are going to replace those contracts internally by promoting prospects to the pro roster or if they'll look at free agency or trades to fill holes.

With a healthy blueline intact and with the emergence of Jake Muzzin, I would say that the team wouldn't be looking at a defenseman in a trade involving Bernier. However, they will be in need of a backup goalie, but that doesn't necessarily have to come in a trade involving Bernier as they could always fill that hole with a free agent signing.

On offense, they will have Penner and Richardson as UFAs, so the Kings could look to add a productive winger into their lineup. I do like Matt Read and think that a pest like Zac Rinaldo could be a good fit on the Kings' bottom lines.
Gotcha. hontestly did not think that you guys would need more fwds but something around read and picks may work. offseason makes sense for you guys really no reason to trade now. gives us time to tank with bryz and get a top D prospect at the same time. I think that Bernier makes a lot of sense for the Flyers so hopefully we are at least considering it.

If the defense ever gets healthy, then the Kings' only need will be to maintain their wingers. Penner will likely be gone after this season. We are in the current market for a top 4 defenseman at the trade deadline, but Philadelphia would be the wrong place to look for that.

Starting in 2008-2009, which was Ryan's first season spent mostly in the NHL, he has scored 104 even strength goals. In that time, Perry has scored 100. And Ryan has played 13 fewer games in that span too, not to mention getting less 5-on-5 ice time. Perry has averaged between a low of 31 seconds more 5-on-5 ice time per game (in 2010-2011) and a high of 2:24 more 5-on-5 ice time than Ryan in over those years.

In fact, I'd approximate that Perry over the past five years (including the current season) has played 459 more minutes of even-strength ice-time over those seasons than Ryan based on the even-strength ice-time on the nhl.com website. That would equate to over 7.6 full games more than Ryan at even-strength, yet Ryan has actually outscored him at even-strength.

I'm not going to say Ryan is a better player than Perry, but those numbers sure support Ryan being a better 5-on-5 scorer.
thats a great rebuttal and tough to argue espescially since my stats were not accurate. I like Ryan better because I despise Perry, but Ill still stand by my argument. Perry is the élite pf in the Game and still geta at least 40 assists a year.

Not to sure about that. I can see DL offering maybe a 2 yr deal especially if DP has a good playoffs.

Holy tuxedo t-shirt wearing Jesus I hope not. I want him gone. Thanks for the memories, but it's time to move on.

This season sure. But the 100+ previous games I haven't. He's in a contract year so of course he's doing well. But when he's comfortable, i.e. anything longer than a 1 year deal, he reverts back to being the lazy Cheeseburglar.

Don't think DL is the biggest fan of Penner. Really don't think he'd keep him for two years.

I think Sutter has his number and will be able to keep him motivated in a longer deal if that is the way things go.

Actually, last year was a contract year as well for Penner and he pretty much sucked all regular season then turned it up in the playoffs. I just get the feeling that the Penner we're seeing is the Penner we'll be getting from here on out.

That would be a hell of a deal. It would be an extremely tough pill to swallow, given that if we take away Voynov, our offense from the defensive line plummets and it would leave us seeking another defenseman without our trading chip, Bernier. Hall is a top flight forward though, signed to a reasonable long term deal, and he plays LA's weakest position. Pretty hard to say no to, though I think that deal would single-handedly turn Edmonton into a monster and give us a lot of problems in the future in the new Pacific Division. That would be an extremely hard deal to turn down though. I would be glad not to be the GM if that deal came to the office.

I don't think it would be a hard deal to turn down for that last reason you gave. It's in division as of next year. And DL likes his D men. And VV is a big piece of that going forward for years to come.

Yes and no. DL values goaltenders and defensemen highest, and rightly so, but we are talking about a first overall winger, who is still very young and signed long term.

Voynov is a great defenseman, but he isn't a #1. Bernier is a great goaltender, it is unknown if he will ever be elite, be he certainly can be a #1, but goaltenders don't get much value. The bottom line is the return is godly for those two players. You could be turning away our future annual point leader for a second pairing defenseman and a backup goaltender, to us at least.

We are enamored by Voynov, but Hall, with conditioning and training in LA, could become one hell of an offensive threat and breakout here. I look at Hall as being similar to Patrick Kane. I love Bernier and Voynov, but if the Hawks offered Kane for both, that is a really really hard offer to turn down. I can see arguments both ways, but you won't find a better offer, so you gotta be sure.

Two potential all-stars for one potential superstar.

Sentimentality aside, Voynov is probably a #3 Dman long term. (ducks from angry mob) And we all know Bernier has to be traded.

Then let Penner walk and find an adequate DMan in free agency. Or if Forbert is ready, even better. Not sure if this deal makes us better immediately, but Hall is a foundation piece. Muzzin's progression eases the loss.

We would have no one internally to take Voynov's place, and it wouldn't be easy to afford a replacement. We would have to settle for less at the position for more at another essentially. We are at the point, as a contender, under new CBA finances, where we can't improve all areas.

It is just very hard to pass up that kind of talent and potential for such a price. If I were in the office, I would probably take that deal, even though it might hurt us a little strategically, it makes us better. It is like playing Monopoly and trading the green properties for the dark blue.

I see him as a #2 but what I see is a cap hit that will hurt us short term. If the cap was not going down next year we might be ok. But as of right now we have 13 players signed so we need a min of 7 more and 14M in cap space. And consider we aren't running with 20 we're running 22-23 so we would need 2-3 more in that number really.

It would work if we lose Voynov. He is expected to get $4 million+ next year at his current pace.

I don't see him getting much more than 4M if that with the current cap. And they can set it up where he goes up every year and give us a better number even in the short term. But even at 4M that is better than 6M. That's two more roster players on EL contracts to fill the spots.

I would rather use the money to upgrade our bottom 6, mainly our 3rd line. We need more balanced scoring imo.

You still can. Just trade away King+ and you have cap space to maneuver for another third liner:
