I trusted the article where it was written "best defenseman in SEL", but you seem to be right as Hockeysverige.se confirms what you said.

Anyway, a great award for Nygren!

That's strange, Mikko Luoma won the award in '07-08.

And some SEL defensemen aren't swedes.

Brunet writes that the Habs are about to sign Nygren and the team wouldn't comment on his award as a result.

They would have to be nuts not to sign him.

Wonder if they'll bring him right over or let him play another year SEL?

Färjestads inked him to a one-year contract a few weeks back, so I'd imagine he's staying there for another season.

Unless that contract has an opt-out in favor of NHL?

I'm sure money talks if the Habs want to bring him over next year. Maybe they'll bring him to camp then make a call.

I'd like to see him get quicker but I see him as a future bottom pairing D, we'll see how it goes for him at the pro level when he has to deal with quicker players.

Nice Has been a big season for Nygren, glad to hear he's getting some recognition for it.

He'll probably be signed and loaned back.

Wins an award named for a great player and then gets praised by said great player ? That's great news.

Let's hope he is better than the last great Swedish defenseman, Anton Stralman.

I remember Laffs fans hyping the hell out of him, then he got his big season in Columbus, and everybody thought he really was going to be great... well, things got a bit quiet since then.

Great news about Nygren though, hope to see him get signed pretty soon

Not exactly the best track record of translating success to the NHL. But still, a lot of people were rightfully skeptical about drafting an overager like that, but it's looking more and more like Nygren was a good pick. The Rockstrom effect is finally taking place.

Both Rundbland and Ekholm are likely to grow into 2nd pairing guys in the NHL. Don't forget both of them are very young. Ragnarsson had a 600+ game long NHL career behind him and Johansson is both old and a prototypical big-ice guy.

Did a little write up on the Habs at the NCAA playoffs.

http://www.habprospects.com/modules....rticle&sid=197

This weekend opens the 1st round for the remaining teams, while others started this past weekend. Dartmouth made it through a close call after losing the opening game in the best of 3 series against the last place team in the ECAC. But they are alive for another weekend, but a loss will end their season and Dustin Walsh's NCAA career.

Waiting to find out what games i will get this weekend, hopfully it's the North Dakota series but if not the Denver series should be a lot of fun.

Seems to be the case:

Nygren is drafted by Montreal but will play at least one more season with Färjestad. But first he is looking forward to this year's play off where he and Chris Lee will be important pair on defence.

Sorry to expose my ignorance but why is this bad?
Lee has much more points but Nygren still managed to get the award.

This may give you a hint on the joke.

Go Nygren
