That line was actually creating some offense out there, Haley was an inch away from tying the game.
Haley has no business being anywhere near the top 6

IMO I'd rather Torts not be like that. It shows a lot about how he coaches.

For one period? Who cares? And, again, that line was good. It's not practical long term, but for an in-game spark, it's not a bad decision. It's not like he made Haley the center on Nash's line.

He wasn't on the first line.

Torts threw him with Stepan/Callahan.

Normally makes me laugh. Stuff with Brooksie and telling Pat to stop coaching I love. Took exception when he was a dick to Sam. Sam's on the same side you are and never spins anything he says, Torts knows he works for the ****ing same organization, show some respect.

You mean the period where you are still losing? Yeah.. Haley dont belong in the top 6 when we're winning and damn sure not when we're losing.

Thats the problem. Instead of Torts just sticking with the lines that were working (see Hags-Stepan-Nash) he tries to figure out something to get other players going by blowing up a line that was dominant for a while.

Total embarrassment. Even in the playoffs last year. It's frightening that this small child is making personell decisions about a professional hockey team.

It's a different team, but for a one season run, I'd probably take that team over this one. I've seen no signs of this team being superior in any way.
Trying to compare this Ranger's team to the cup winning Bolts team is ridiculous! That Tampa Bay team was much better and deeper talent wise; not even close!

Long term, no, Haley doesn't belong in the top-6.

But you people are blowing it WAY out of proportion.

You haven't even refuted the fact that is actually was an EFFECTIVE line. If it works, you can't just throw "oh Haley isn't a top-6er" at me as an argument. It's semantical BS. It worked. Thus, BS.

If Haley is starting the next game with Stepan and Callahan? That would be a problem. But, as a mix up in a game that we weren't in mentally? I've seen much worse from many other coaches.

Just watched the game on DVR. Ugh.

Need to win games like this - back-up goalie hasn't won in a year, guy with one goal scores two. Par for the course.

Funny thing was, I don't think this was the refs calling bad penalties. Buffalo just wanted this game more. Never should've happened to a 14th place team.

Rangers need to call up Kreider. I know Torts misuses him, but the third and fourth lines couldn't score on an open net. With a useless Gaborik, that leaves five possible scorers on the whole team.

And can Del Zotto hit the net, please. Not that he was the problem, he had one of his better games, but he shoots wide on golden opportunities more than any white man I've ever seen.

Not to mention the constant cycling, grinding, cough up the puck leaves us almost no chance to score.

I think the Rangers will make the playoffs, but absent some help at the trade deadline and an infusion of some offensive talent and someone taking a shot from the slot instead of this useless mucking and grinding by Boyle, Pyatt and others with no shot at scoring, this is not a serious contender for the Cup. Sorry. We overachieved last year, I think we can be better next year with more experience and some help from young kids. Not this year.

Sounds like you're talking about Mick Malthouse

I didn't get to watch the game, but I'm guessing "we sucked from head to toe"?

Friday night: "We shortened the bench in the 3rd and it lost us the game! The top guys were too tired, why wasn't the bottom six used more?"

Tonight: "We used Haley on the second line and it lost us the game! These guys should never be on the ice in the 3rd period!"

Bipolar doesn't even begin to cover it...

I think I'm starting to get on board with trading MDZ if we can get a clear upgrade at center/LW. Dude seriously misses the net more than Taylor Swift changes boyfriends.

Never shorten the bench THAT much. But don't throw people around like that either...

Contradictory is more like it.

The lines definitely do need fixing, though.

Call up Kreider. Sit Haley.

playing the 4th line and putting a 4th liner on your 2nd line are 2 different things.

Malthouse could (and probably still can) make adjustments in-game. It was just at the end he'd go of f on some long winded rant about how it was always his plan. his teams for the most part got the maximum out of their abilities too.

Back to hockey, it sounds stupid when we have cally, nash, gabby and hags, but we it looks like we need another winger who is half a threat to score (kreider?). We also need a stop-gap 3rd line c that can do the same until miller is ready.
