Ian White to Vancouver

Ian White intrigues me, what would DET want for him?

Rumor is they are looking for a second round pick, seems kind of steep.

I would guess for a pick (2nd/3rd rounder).

Holland might keep him until the last day of trade deadline though, if there is an injury than he will just keep White

3rd and a low end prospect would be fair IMO

Edit: turns into a 2nd if we make it to the WCF

I'd probably be down to give up a 2nd rounder for him. Maybe a conditional late round pick if the Canucks make the conference finals?

Some of their beat people, they still say they aren't moving him yet. I think they eventually will, the last time White was moved as a UFA that was the asking price. He is a right handed puck mover, I don't know if it will lower, but that is probably what they will ask and it is a sellers market maybe they will get lucky.

2nd rounder seems fair. Don't really have need for Van mid-level prospects, Det already has sort of bottleneck there, limiting kids icetime.

He'd definitely be of interest for Vancouver as a RH defenceman who skates well enough and can move the puck reasonably well.

In a lot of ways, he's like a 'poor man's Bieksa', who we all know AV loves dearly. If we were to find a way to bring White in and move Ballard out...it would balance the d-corps much better, with everyone on their natural side, save some cap room, and i think the net result would be a nice improvement as a unit, at least given the way this coaching staff is inclined to use personnel.

A 2nd certainly wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility. Especially if Ballard can be moved for some sort of pick/prospect that would soften the blow.

If White is traded, which I consider unlikely, it probably won't be to a Western Conference team.

Why not? Detroit is moving East next year anyways.

And is White really that much of a force that they would regret it??

White is UFA next season, so being burned 1-2 years down the road isn't an issue.

Detroit is, rightly, concerned that moving a top-4 d-man for a minimal return (a 2nd isn't huge) could be a bad move if they end up playing against him in the playoffs. It's just bad business.

I'd gladly pay a 2nd for White. We should be able to fit him in at the deadline. I wonder if rather than a 2nd, Detroit would be interested in a Ballard/White swap. Ballard is signed beyond this season and has been playing like a top 4, we just can't accomodate his salary past this season. Plus, we're far too left side heavy (Hamhuis, Edler, Garrison, Ballard) and none of our guys seem to be able to transition to the right. Maybe this could be the type of deal that helps both teams out? Just a thought...

No need for Ballard.. gotta have cap space so we can get some false hopes that Horton or Perry would be wearing winged wheel next year.

Not to mention we have far too many defenseman who play the left side as it is. Adding Ballard would just make it worse.

We don't need him.

Garrison has proven to be capable on the right side and Tanev has emerged as a top 4 defenseman. Then we got Bieksa.

I'm fine with where we are at right now on the backend.

Sorry SS. I disagree buddy. I think we're fine this season, but losing Ballard, who I think has more then earned top 4 time, let alone not being scratched for Alberts, could mean a little trouble.

White at the deadline (barring an uninjured D corps for us) would be great, we can waive Alberts for a roster spot.

Then prior to the draft, we can then move Ballard to replace said second (picks in general anyway) should the Isles be looking for someone to fill in for Vis or Streit (or their cap hits).

White can help in playoffs, filling in for our oft injured blueliners, and either sign at a lesser cap then Ballard as a bottom pairing D man, or we can let him walk if Connauton or Corrado aren't ready. Gillis doesn't take risks without a back up, our acquisition of Ballard is proof of this.

That being said, we have other holes to fill, but a RHD that can skate and move the puck for a second? Seems like a no brainer to me, if for no other reason then to shut guys like me up on this issue
