team could use some scoring. If Boyle is going to be sitting on his arse then Zuke is better than Bickel
thing is I imagine they want to move a contract out. Maybe that's Boyle but I would be a little surprised if he as moved for just a pick and I dont think they want to handcuff themselves with maxing the 50 contracts. A pick for a rental at the deadline is likely why they need 1 spot
maybe Gilroy is moved? Hamrlik is going to play in reality
Expect to see a trade or two soon. Very soon. Probably a Minor league deal (2 for one or a pick ) plus one of Bickel/Eminger/Gilroy being moved out.
I think they keep Boyle around for depth this year unless something good comes along. Would also expect a pickup or two around the deadline. Hamrlik is the defensive acquisition for now - for better or eorse. Think Murray is not coming now... Maybe a PP defender (Ottawa is probably not moving Gonchar though) plus a depth center? Plus 50/50 chance on adding Zuccarello...
the past couple games it is when Nash is on the ice that the Rangers score, they are not getting secondary scoring. The 2nd/3rd line need some new blood with speed and skill and the powerplay could also use someone. I hope sather was just seeing how the team was looking while on this winning streak and then make a decision when they finally lost and it happened last night. The Rangers can't rely soley on Nash to win every game for them. I think today is the perfect opportunity to sign zukes. He's been off from hockey for quite a few days, should be well rested, and he adds a spunky jump to this team that I feel is lacking past the 2nd line.
Go get it done Slats! The time is NOW! Bring us back the Norwegian Hobbit!!!
It is status quo regarding the Rangers’ interest in signing restricted free agent Mats Zuccarello, meaning no decision has been reached whether to offer a contract to the winger, whose KHL season ended last Tuesday with a first-round playoff defeat.
Norwegian media reported late last week that his khl club wanted him to get surgery on his arm injury from his last nyr run before the world cup - no major surgery but theire pushing for it...
According to zuc himself the broken arm from last year has bothered him during his first khl season - he feels like he held back a little to "protect" the arm..
That's gotta be an issue in the nhl if he can't go Balls to the wall...
New info;
Norwegian tv2 apperantly just had a feature on zuc..He and Cal O'Reilly from msg are training with Norways national coach staying in shape for the upcoming world cup...
zuc himself says he barely notices the injury and would hold of the possible surgery to after the world cup (or the nhl season is over if it comes to that)
His agent told the paper that he is in contact with the Rangers on a daily basis and that Zuccarello wants a one-way contract for this season and next season.
Zuccarello then said that the important factor in his decision isn’t the contract, but whether the Rangers will use him in a meaningful role.
1 way deal forces the hand a little more and gives him some pretty good odds that he'll have ice time
LOL, you think Tortorella gives a damn about what his contract says?
If hes still the same weak, ineffective even strength player he was, they may not be able to send him down, but he most certainly wont be on the ice. Which is the reason I dont think he comes back at all - hasnt done a thing to earn a 1 way deal through next year.
Sign him. One way deal for an amount that makes sense over next season. If it doesn't not work out, he can be traded, or at worst waived. I see no risk here. Really. An asset for free basically... Cut a minor deal with one contracted player first, then sign him leaving a spot open regarding the 50 contract limit. Oh and Mac spell check really sux
If that is the case, then I totally agree, pass. But is it so?
Norwegian posters saying his wrist/arm still bothering him. I'd much rather get a healthy Fasth over as I believe we have a better chance at winning with him in the lineup.
Just saw the interview and they showed him on the ice...
He looked damn good out there....(...just sayin'...)
Yeah, didn´t look very injured to mee.....
Still, I think he will stay in Russia. In this interview he actually don´t seem very eager to return. As he says, if he is to go back, he needs a "real chance" to make the team.
Don´t believe for a second that the Rangers will give him a oneway contract.
Like I have said on a few occasions, I have always been interested in seeing what Zucc could deliver if his stay was not interrupted by injury. I saw some very real skill in his play, though I don't know if his game would translate to real ice time right now.
I would think it should, if he is in shape.
The same Torts who benched a 9M player he basically hand picked?
Why isn't Zucc on the ice in NY? I am starting to feel that its ridiculous if we don't sign Zucc.
I mean, besides salary, pedigree and history and what not, what forwards do we have that actually are better hockey players than him? Nash, Cally, Stepan (?), Gabby (?), Hagelin and ?
Richards? (why? He has potential on the point on a PP build for him, sure, we don't have that.)
Pyatt? (come on)
Boyle?
Powe?
Kreider? (lol)
JT Miller? (not even close)
Gabby and Richards are out on the ice playing worth less hockey. New York Rangers is a hockey team. Plays the game of hockey. The other team won't give us any handicap because Richards makes 9.5m skating on his leather and Gabby skating around out there in no mans land making 7.5m. Certain players are extremely good at certain things. If we learned anything from 97' - 04' it is that that do not help you at all unless you put those type of players in the right environment in this team game.
I don't understand this love for Zuccarello. He did nothing as a Ranger. And even if he came back and dominated he would not under Tortorella's system. You're all wasting your time.

He scored at a .5 ppg clip. How is that nothing? He did that as a rookie pretty much. Are you telling me this team is so good offensively they don't need that?

He was on a 0.5 PPG pace playing 4th line with limited minutes....
That's nothing ?
wow....just wow....
I don't see how it could get any worse with him on the ice...(But that's just me....)

If you ask all the coaches in SEL (Swedish Elite League) who they want in their roster; Hagelin or Zuccarello ? Most of them will answer Zuccarello. Should say something about his status.

Hagelin is the (easily) superior NHLer. So....that's fairly meaningless to the Rangers.
