Well he's outhitting Brown this year. In that department, might be a little case of the grass is greener on the other side.
I think Eager gave it his best to embrace the role asked of him, I think it's just unfortunate that the concussion occurred, he obviously was willing to fight before it, and since then he hasn't fought. I can't blame him or criticize him for that. If it didn't happen, I think we might be singing a different tune about Eager.
Nonetheless, Brown also gets raved about in terms of his attitude and character, Eager you hear grumblings about the opposite every now and then. Combine that with the price tag, I definitely think Brown is a better fit for this role on this team moving forward.
I think hits are a very overrated stats. Sure Eager hit but that was usually after a pass by the opposing player and never really caused turnovers or a sustained forecheck, which is the point of a hit.
And i can't criticize Eager for not wanting to fight anymore either, but at the same time you can't expect to keep your job as a tough guy/energy player either if you can't fight, so i can't blame the team for not wanting him anymore. Harsh reality of the business side of hockey.
Really disappointed that we waived him. I was hoping he would round out his game. He seemed like the type of guy we need. Brown is playing that role. but to me Eager would have been the type of guy that can hit and chip in 20 goals a year, kinda like Ryan Jones but with a bit more grit. I would think someone will claim him.
he is one of the last guys we should move from the 4th line , A line of Petrel Belanger Brown is a good one
IMO Harti needs to be sent down or PB and talked to about the game from above
Smyth RNH Eberle
PRV Gagner Yak
Hall Horcoff Hemsky
Petrel Belanger Brown
3 scoring lines and 1 energy line , with Hall getting double shifted on the RNH line at times
What do you guys think about that ?
missing Jones.. Petrell and Jones can rotate in and out of the lineup when everyone is healthy.
Harti needs to learn from Brown and become a 2hits\game guy instead of what he has been doing this season.
Replacement is probably doing this as I type this:
I don't care for Ben Eager at all and never understood us getting this player in the first place. He's a disposable player as I've said all along thats basically wasted his career. I pointed out as well that in the GP since the Brown trade Eager looked very unhappy, didn't lay hits(maybe one a night) and showed very little intensity or want to be out there. Then he's hs. This isn't such a big surprise.
but heres the strange thing about the Oilers movements. Eager was a complete and utter waste of time last season that went through long spells being an unmotivated player that seemed not interested in performing his role. He was actually playing better this year. Not that I care much one way or the other.
So now at least Brown isn't redundant, and hopefully he's a better contribution. I think its clear Eager has better skills but rarely uses them.
