Isn't that where people who clear waivers go ? I'm not sure we have other options

He might not like it but to bad for him I guess millionaire hockey player life sucks

I think Eager gave it his best to embrace the role asked of him, I think it's just unfortunate that the concussion occurred, he obviously was willing to fight before it, and since then he hasn't fought. I can't blame him or criticize him for that. If it didn't happen, I think we might be singing a different tune about Eager.

Nonetheless, Brown also gets raved about in terms of his attitude and character, Eager you hear grumblings about the opposite every now and then. Combine that with the price tag, I definitely think Brown is a better fit for this role on this team moving forward.
I think hits are a very overrated stats. Sure Eager hit but that was usually after a pass by the opposing player and never really caused turnovers or a sustained forecheck, which is the point of a hit.

And i can't criticize Eager for not wanting to fight anymore either, but at the same time you can't expect to keep your job as a tough guy/energy player either if you can't fight, so i can't blame the team for not wanting him anymore. Harsh reality of the business side of hockey.

has hordichuk been dressing in OKC?
wonder if eager actually rides the busses when he clears

If the smallest team in the league can't find use for Ben Eager, which team in the league will? Claiming Eager from the oilers would be the ultimate admittance of futility.

We could ask him to stay home or trade him to a team who can't claim him because of # of contracts.

Really disappointed that we waived him. I was hoping he would round out his game. He seemed like the type of guy we need. Brown is playing that role. but to me Eager would have been the type of guy that can hit and chip in 20 goals a year, kinda like Ryan Jones but with a bit more grit. I would think someone will claim him.

Eager's cap hit is high enough that it still counts against the cap even in the minors, but it does free up a roster spot. And having both Eager and Brown is redundant and completely unnecessary.

Hopefully he gets claimed, for his sake and to free up the $1.1M in capspace (not that we need it, mind you).

he is one of the last guys we should move from the 4th line , A line of Petrel Belanger Brown is a good one

IMO Harti needs to be sent down or PB and talked to about the game from above

Smyth RNH Eberle
PRV Gagner Yak
Hall Horcoff Hemsky
Petrel Belanger Brown

Petry Smid
Schultz Schultz
Whitney Fistric

3 scoring lines and 1 energy line , with Hall getting double shifted on the RNH line at times
What do you guys think about that ?

I think it only counts for 200K in the minors anyway so no big deal.

I don't think it matters either way to be honest. His contract is over after next season and we've got something like $20M in cap space.

He was one of the guys I had on my potential buyout list. Small contract, but if he isn't picked up or dealt after clearing waivers he'll be bought out this summer.

missing Jones.. Petrell and Jones can rotate in and out of the lineup when everyone is healthy.
Harti needs to learn from Brown and become a 2hits\game guy instead of what he has been doing this season.

Seems like a waste of a "get out of jail free" card if you ask me. Why bother buying out a $1.1M contract that only has one year left?

Honestly I'd rather see him in the lineup than Petrell most games but it's not really a big deal I suppose. Won't be surprised if he gets claimed.

The guy had his eggs scrambled.
It's gotta be hard for a guy like Eager to play like he needs to play once you get scrambled a few times.

I sort of feel bad for the guy... but then I remember he's set for life.. and will probably still collect another large contract sitting in the press box.

If this is true it's obvious why they had to offer the conditional pick although Edmonton's 4th rounder was likely to be the highest amongst the other teams offering.

I think it was more of Tambellini's relationship with Nonis that lead to Brown coming to Edmonton.

Anyways.

I liked Eager's game when he was on. Concussions make it hard to play the type of hockey he needs to, though.

Last I heard Hordichuk is playing fairly decent in OKC.

I pointed out as well that in the GP since the Brown trade Eager looked very unhappy, didn't lay hits(maybe one a night) and showed very little intensity or want to be out there. Then he's hs. This isn't such a big surprise.

but heres the strange thing about the Oilers movements. Eager was a complete and utter waste of time last season that went through long spells being an unmotivated player that seemed not interested in performing his role. He was actually playing better this year. Not that I care much one way or the other.

So now at least Brown isn't redundant, and hopefully he's a better contribution. I think its clear Eager has better skills but rarely uses them.

But what good is keeping the get out of jail free cards, not like you can frame a unused one after the fact. We have 2 and I question who really qualifies for it.

Maybe we just do a regular buyout then, not sure if it's allowed.

I had Horcoff pegged for one maybe not this off-season but next.

But after seeing how much we actually miss the guy there is no way we can do that unless we find a suitable veteran replacement.

This contract may be his last big one.

I hope it is them just giving up on the player and not them giving up on that type of player. Brown gets injured and we are left with Petrell being our tough guy. Not ideal.
