Gotta clean up that home record a bit. I'm glad we fully sucked and got those high picks, but I'd much rather see improvement to just in or just out of the playoffs this year.

who knows. this team's A-game is very good. But it also has an F-game and mostly play's a C-game. completely bipolar and schizophrenic.

can they have a hot streak and kgo 14-7? perhaps, but doubtful.

if they come close, and get a taste of what they can become, i'll be satisfied. they can't pick in the top 5 again. place about 20th and trade the pick.

I said if we were within 4 points at the end of the road trip from hell we had a good chance. I think the road trip has been good for this team and pulling Belanger out of the lineup for whatever reason. They just can't lose more then 2 in a row for the rest of the season.

Optimism is a beautiful thing. It's also beautiful how tight middle of the pack is bunched in the west. A couple more wins over Detroit and Nashville will make me a real believer.

Those are two very winable games imo. Nashville - they just aren't that good. If this team wants to jump them in the standings, they need to beat them.

The Detroit game scares me though. First home game after a long road trip are notoriously lazy. They'll need Horcoff to really whip em in to shape before the game

Its unrealistic, but possible.

Detroit's been scary good in the last month. Won't be surprised if they beat us at home. Obviously looking for an Oiler win though.

All we need is four more points than the teams ahead of us, as long as the teams behind us don't surge. That's a lot of teams, so its unlikely, but still possible, especially, if we beat those teams in head to head matchups where possible. It is certainly a longshot, but I'll keep my hopes up.

They lost two in a row to CBJ. I wouldn't call that scary good.

Exactly, we need to win the division. Win all the divisional games the rest of the way and we squeak into 3rd.

Both teams have really picked up there play from earlier in the year. CBJ were severely underrated at the beginning of the season. Howson put together a very tough team to play against.

Which is exactly why he wouldn't fit in here.

But I did say at the beginning of the year that CBJ is better than they look. If they played Bobrovsky a lot more than Mason they'd probably be at least 1 or 2 spots higher. They've impressed me with their work ethic this year.

I just look at Detroit's recent record and it's nothing spectacular. It by no means makes me worried to play them like it did in previous years.

I agree on CBJ though, hence why I don't mind Howson being hired.

Like Dustin Neilson said, if the playoff cut is projected to be 55 points this year. The oilers need 30 more points in their next 22 games... So they would have to go 15-7 the rest of the way or something like 13-5-4.

In order for this to happen they need to go on a 4-5 game win streak in there some where so that they only have to go 10-7 the rest of the way, a little better than .500.

Realistically it doesn't look good, but because we are in the "easier" half of our season where the majority of games are at home, we have a fighting chance.

Personally I think they will end up in 10-11th in the West, which I deem a successful season.

The media really threw the expectations of this team this year out the window when a bunch of them chose the Oilers to be their under dog team and make the playoffs...

If you were to ask everyone last year where they would place this year the majority of them would not say in the playoffs.

Possible, yes, likely no. Unless they go on a tear at home, playoffs are a fantasy. We do only have 6 games left against the heavy trappers in the west, but without a significant roster addition or two in the very near future, I don't see it happening this year.

So long as we're close, I'll be happy. It we finish bottom 5 again, then the meltdown will commence.

I doubt it, but it's possible.

Our record is probably a bit deceiving due to all the road games we have played so far. You look at the records in the West and pretty much every team does a lot better at home than on the road.

For instance Detroit beat us down pretty badly in the 2 games at the Joe. I don't expect that to be the case on Friday when they have to come to Edmonton.

It is possible. It's been a crazy up and down season for a lot of teams.

If RNH and Gagner combined won 45% of their faceoffs or better, we'd win easily.
Lol....I think we need to do a few other things better to win games.

3 games remain against Calgary, Vancouver and Anaheim. As well as 2 against Minnesota. I look at those 4 teams and think those will determine a lot. Calgary and Minnesota we need to be able to beat, and we never show up against them. Anaheim in the last week of the season could be big as well. If they keep rolling they might have clinched 2nd in the West by then.

13-6-3 down the stretch should put us in good position

we have to go 9-3-2 (20 pts.) at home

and 4-3-1 on the road (9 pts.)

so not impossible...but really in tough

I'm not counting on the Oilers making the playoffs, but with the majority of their final 22 games being at home, you never know. Also looks like RNH is finally getting his game back so if that continues, theres a chance. Dubnyk also has to be consistent of course.

This is amazing.

Four days ago, all these people were yelling for blood from literally everyone on this team.

Two straight wins and we're back into the playoffs?

Gah.

To me this means:

1. No consecutive losses
2. Winning streakS

Indeed, in tough. They've struggled with 1 and 2 so far this year.

Yes. That's what happens when you're in a tight conference in a shortened season. If we go on a winning streak we'll be in contention. A losing streak and we're out.
